Masada is a Jewish holy site, one of the United Nations World Heritage Sites. It is located on a rocky hilltop at the junction of the Judean Desert and the Dead Sea Valley, about 25 kilometers north from EinGedi. Its eastern cliffs are about 450 meters high, from the top of the mountain, straight down the coast of the Dead Sea; the west cliffs are about 100 meters high. The top of the mountain is flat and in a convenient wedge shape, about 600 meters in length from the north to the south, 300 meters in width from the east and the west, and about 1400 meters in length from the surrounding city walls. The natural roads leading to Masada are extremely steep, the most important is the "Snake Path" on the east side.
