Lolei was built in 893 AD during the reign of Yasumo I (Yasovarman I, AD 889-910), and the temple is dedicated to the ancestors of Shiva and the king. Now the name of Lolei Temple is derived from the original name Hariharalaya (meaning "Harihara City"). It is difficult to imagine that Loret Temple was originally built on a 90-meter-long, 80-meter-wide artificial island in a huge pool of 3,800 meters long and 800 meters wide (Indratataka Baray, built by Jehu Samoa I's father, Indra I, and now dried up). The four brick towers of Lore Temple are east-west axial, the main entrance facing east, built on a high platform.
