San Gimignano San Gimignano. This town is famous for its high towers. The medieval local tyrants fought in the form of building high towers. During its heyday, the town had more than 70 high towers. Now there are more than ten left, but only one of them can be visited. Still, San Gimignano is known as the City of the 100 Towers and was recognized as a United Nations World Heritage Site in 1990. There are two main specialties here: Chianti Classico DOCG red wine - that is, the famous "black cock" - look at the vineyards around the town to know that this is the core production area of Chianti red wine; the second is black hair pig - including black hair pig salami, so you can often see a pig head shop sign here! There are many restaurants and shops around the well square, and tourists are happy to take a break here. If you want to be quiet, you can turn to the alley, where it seems to be two worlds, empty streets, mottled walls.
