Took a trip out of the city to see China's northwest! Great way to spend the New Year holiday. Recommendations: 1. Desert Star Hotel (沙漠星星) it's about two hours from Yinchuan airport by high-speed rail and then taxi. Great sunrise views over the sand dunes! 2. Xipo Hostel in Shapotou. It has a very old west Americana vibe with an awesome little community. Also you can see parts of the old Great Wall 3. Route 66 … a 1km stretch of road that is very "instagrammable". Really only for the pictures, you can skip if it's not your thing. #newyearstrip #ningxia

Shing Mun Reservoir
Hiking from Tsuen Wan to Sha Tin Even though we enjoying having friends around, we always make times for just the four of us. And we love hiking as a family. It is a bonding experience and allow us to exercise together. Hiking motivates kids to be active and teaches them to appreciate the nature. Family hike is usually on a Sunday. We started at Tsuen Wan’s Shing Mun Country Park. Once arrived at the starting point, turn right and continue walking on paved road (watch out for cars), it’s anti-clockwise along the reservoir. Walk along Wilson-trail sec 7, the reservoir is on your left, until you reach a T point where your left is a bridge. Take the stairs on your right towards the paved road, then turn left to continue walking. You will be crossing a bridge, and it marks the beginning of a more challenging hike. From the bridge, it’s mostly slopes, all the way towards the other hills to Shatin. After the first slope at a junction, there the only cubicle toilets. I suggest to take a break. There’s a signboard, continue walking towards Needles Hill. We will be taking the Shing Mun Forrest Track - Needle Hill sections. Heads up ! It’s all slopes again 😂 Keep in mind you’re going to Needles Hill direction, until you reach the pavilion with the sign “To Sha Tin Town”. Take the path next to the sign board, all the way until you reach the stairs. There’s 2 route at this point, one to Fotan and the other one to Shatin. We take the stairs down to Shatin MTR station. * Distance: 10.4km * Duration: 4 hours * Difficulties: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (certain level of physical strength is required for going uphill) * Scenic: ⭐️⭐️ * Altitudes: 430m

Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong
#staycation at Mandarin Oriental from 10am to next day 6pm, offering an afternoon tea session at Cafe Causette, in room dining of their best and Michelin award Wellington Beef set, and buffet style breakfast at Clipper Lounge. Bedroom is spacious and comfortable with modern and big bathroom. We was arranged to a lower level room, facing the road, and central pier. Room service for turn down and in room dining are great 👍 food served on time and warm. Breakfast with lots of choices and overall tasty. The only disappointment is afternoon tea’s dessert/pastries and scones which I was expecting better. Gym room is at higher floor. Lots of equipments, modern and updated ones. It divides into 3 parts; the stretching corner, cardio section and strength training. Towels, water and fruits are provided for free. #couplestrip #hotelexperience #hotelcation #hkhotel #staycations

From winter to spring, you can often see the most beautiful sunsets. This time on the high-speed rail from Yan'an to Xi'an, just in time for the setting sun, the setting sun like a salted egg yolk fell on the vast countryside and the whole process of sunset was appreciated from a different angle on the high-speed rail. If you want to travel to Shaanxi, it is recommended to take the high-speed train from Yan'an to Xi'an, and then from Xianyang International Airport to other cities. #sunset #feb2021 #awesomepic

Mandarin Oriental Hong Kong
It’s part of the staycation package; to enjoy an #afternoontea set at cafe causette. 3 layers begins with sandwiches at the bottom - truffle egg salad with mayonnaise and herbs/ Vitello Tonnato with caper and pickle/ prawn cocktail with pumpernickel/ smoked salmon with cream cheese ; then come the sweetness - milk chocolate entremets/ gingerbread orange praline/ raspberry vanilla tree; lastly the scones with Devon clotted cream and rose petal jams. Honestly, the sandwiches are my favourite. The second layer is just ordinary pastries and they are far too sweet for my liking. Scones are a tad bit too dry, and plain scones are overly dusted with sugar powders I had to scratch them off.

Yu Garden
Wondering where you can still experience #chinesenewyear 🎇🎇 in #shanghai? Yu Garden is the only classic Chinese garden 🪴 in the central city. Right now you can see beautiful lantern 🏮🏮displays leading up to the #lanternfestival, which falls on the 15th day of the Chinese New Year 🧧 🧧. The garden itself is a small part of the larger complex, which contains main preserved and renovated structures evocative of an old Qing dynasty-era settlement. Make sure you spend some time wandering around the narrow alleyways and exploring the shops. Don't miss the large koi pond 🎏 filled with lanterns as well as the historic teahouse 🫖. Expect there to be lots of people so just relax, take your time, and enjoy this preserved bit of historic Shanghai. 🐂 🐂 #scenicspotguide

Yu Garden
We went to see Yu Garden’s special Spring Festival lights on the 3rd day of Chinese New Year (初三)! The whole area was heavily regulated as there were tons of tourists. Loud speakers asking everyone to show their green code and visitors can only move in one direction to control the flow. It was nice and pretty but got very busy at night. #awesomepic

The weather is getting warmer, and the flowers in Shanghai are blooming earlier than in previous years. In the community, beside the street, at the exit of the subway station, you can already see magnolia and cherry blossoms in full bloom. The annual flowering period is very short. I would like to recommend some of the best flower viewing spots in Shanghai. Let's go to see the flowers this weekend! 🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸🌸 Gucun Park —— Cherry Blossoms Shanghai Flower Port —— Tulips Nanhui Peach Blossom Village —— Peach Blossoms Shanghai Botanical Garden —— Cherry Blossoms, Tulips, Peach Blossoms Century Park —— Plum Blossoms, Magnolias Zhuanghang Town —— Rape Flowers Jiading Wisteria Garden —— Wisteria Caoxi Park —— Peonies Minhang Cultural Park —— Magnolias People’s Square —— Magnolias #springblossoms #shanghaispring #flowers #shanghailife #urbanexplorer

🚴♀️The road from Jing’an Temple to Yongkang Road should be the most popular yuppy street of Shanghai. On a sunny day, riding a bicycle to explore the small shops on Yongkang Road. This street used to be the French Concession of Shanghai, so you can also see many French-style buildings and small houses covered with creepers on both sides of the road. ☕️Yongkang road is just over 600 meters, but there are dozens of yuppy shops gathered together, you will not get tired of strolling all day. The bathroom coffee shop is really interesting, the door is bright candy pink and literary arched glass doors, the shop is divided into two interior and exterior, the exterior is dominated by the bar. The production is still very good. The coffee beans are rich and refreshing. Each cup of layering is well done. If you don’t know where to go on weekends, you can visit Yongkang Road. #weekendgetaway #shanghailife

I had the opportunity to visit Sochi at the beginning of this year. It ended up being one of my favourite trips so far. I was lucky enough to have a local friend that showed me around. I came back home a few kilograms heavier (don’t blame me). The food was incredible, but my favourite by far was borscht and shashlik, shashlik is kebabs cooked over a fire, almost similar to bbq. Our days consisted out of coffee, good food, tasty desserts and beautiful scenery. I felt truly immersed in the culture after spending nearly two months there. I like these kinds of “slow travels”, that way you can really get the feeling of the country and its people. I can’t wait to go visit Sochi again, perhaps next time in summer. #russia #sochi #mynovgetaway#awesomepic

Very nice #luxuryhotel with amazing views onto the snow mountain in Lijiang. The location is very good for daily excursion and exploring the nearby ancient village which many food opportunities. Also the food in the hotel (ordered room service) is very tasty yet the breakfast can be very crowded. You may want to avoid peak times in order to enjoy a calm morning. The rooms are spacious and some have a plunge pool. We stayed in a two bedroom villa with a beautiful courtyard garden and small heated pool. The interior is a bit dated but still very clean! Po Toi Island
Hong Kong’s South Pole - Po Toi Island Day trip to Po Toi with kids’ buddies. Even at outdoor, mask on face at all time (maybe not, for photo purposes). So, where is this Po Toi I’m talking about? Po Toi located at the most southern of Hong Kong, hence the nickname “HK South Pole “. It is popular for its rocks formations and seaweeds; and of course camping and hiking with incredible views. Took the only ferry on Tuesday at 10am from Aberdeen to Po Toi. It’s approximately 45mins ride. Then begins our walk by turning left once leaving the pier, and continue walking in clockwise direction. It’s a circular trail. So you’ll be covering Old Mansion of Family Mo, Coffin Rock then stop at Ngau Wu Teng (which is the highest point of Po Toi) for some snacks and tea break. Then continue walking, it’s going downhill towards second part of the circular trail, with rocks formations such as tortoise rock, monk rock, palm cliff and passing the 126 lighthouse. This area in the southernmost circular trail. It is also the shortest, and most popular camping site on Po Toi Island. * Distance: approx 5km * Altitudes: 188m * Time: approx 3 hours (breaks included) * Toilet: cubicle toilet at pier and beginning point of circular trail part 2 * Difficulties: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ (plenty of stairs heading up and down with no shades for 2/3 of the trail) * Scenic: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ How to get there: - from Aberdeen : Tues & Thurs depart at 10am , 3.30pm from Po Toi ; Sat at 10am or 3pm, 2pm or 4pm returning from Po Toi via Stanley; Sun at 8.15am with 6pm returning via Stanley. - from Stanley : Sat at 1.20pm, 2pm or 4pm from Po Toi; public holiday have 4 time slots back and forth. Florentia Village Shanghai
Get off the at yuandong avenue metro station exit 2, turn left to the coach waiting point where you can get on the 18 seaters bus to the village which is less than 3 min ride. Or a short 10-15 minute walk from the metro station. The atmosphere is nice and the setting is quite similar to the outlets in other part of the world. I arrived at the village around 10.00am. Head straight to the designer brands before the shops get crowded. The queue started to form around 11am. For first timer, do obtain a copy of the map from the customer service and plan the route accordingly if you have limited time. The designer brands carry the previous season collections and it is still a good bargain. There are several designer brands including Salvatore Ferragamo, Gucci, Prada, Burberry, Valentino, Fendi etc. in general the service are good with the exception of Pandora, it seems that the sales assistant is unhappy to work over the holiday! Do ensure that you enrol as member for points collection which can be used for cash redemption when making a purchase at selected shops. On level 2 there are several restaurants and fast food chain. It’s worth making a trip if you are in the mood of shopping at good bargains! I will definitely visit Florentia Village again. #shopping #shoppingtime #happynewyear

The park had 2 sections, the first part includes a long wooden walk way eventually arriving at a cable car entrance. The cable car then takes you back to the park entrance. You may see elephants along the way however like zoos and other animal parks, I'd say its best to go when it's cooler so very early morning for more chance to see. Or ask the park when the most active time is for the elephants. We didn't see any at all when walking to the cable car. The cable car was expensive (2 per car, 50 Yuan each) and we waited for some time to use it but there is food nearby to keep you busy while you wait. I also believw that you can take the cable car up to the top and walk down if you prefer, it seemed to be quieter coming up than going down. The second part of our trip was the 'Research Centre' around 5km further away. We were able to see elephants up close and walk wirh them.

Incredible resort, feels like a new European city, fairly quiet at the moment which means more relaxed. Stunning views over the golf course from my room. Free bicycle hire, hot springs, I believe, are chargeable. The staff were all excellent here. The room was spacious, clean and well stocked. Mini bar prices were very reasonable. My only problem was the quality of food in the restaurant in the evening. It was very expensive for what it was. I wouldn't eat there again. Having said that, the breakfast was excellent, probably the best International breakfast I've had in China. Stayed for 2 nights which I could have stayed longer.

From Tuen Mun’s So Kwun Wat Tsuen, taking the Maclehose trails sec 10, follow the signs to Thousand Lake / Reservoir Islands Viewpoint. We drove to So Kwun Wat Tsuen, where parking spaces are offered by the villagers for a price ($70 to $100). From here, it’s all paved road for about 45mins to 1 hour where you’ll reach a viewpoint with signboard showing another 1km to Reservoir Island viewpoint and a cubicle toilet next to it. If you’re travelling with young children or strollers, this may be your endpoint for the hike. But if you want a better view! Keep going, the remaining 1km are pretty straightforward in the woods, there’s a clear path, just watch out the roots and rocks. When you see the signboard of Thousand Lake/ Reservoir Islands viewpoint, the stairs are right next to it, just climb up and keep walking. You’ll know when you arrived. * Distance: approx. 7.7km round trip * Altitudes: 296m * Time: approx 2 hours 40 mins * Toilet: Public toilet before the starting point at the village; then cubicle toilet after an hour walk * Difficulties: ⭐️⭐️ (although mostly paved road, but it’s ascending/ inclines like 80% of the time) * Scenic: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ X #hongkongkids #familyhiking #hikingkids #familytime #hongkongmoms #hikinghk #nature #hikingtrails #hiking

I visited Hengdian World Studio ‘Palace of Emperor Qin’ and I was impressed with the architectural structure of the palace. The ground is huge and I spent 1.5 hours exploring the site including watching the coronation of the emperor performance. Costumes are available for rent where visitors can dressed up for picture taking mimicking their favourite film stars I.e Miyue 羋月 Many popular Chinese dramas were filmed here. As I am a fan of ancient costume dramas, I am glad to have the chance to step on the site where some scenes were filmed. Hengdian comprises of more than 10 studios but unfortunately I only managed to spend half day at this attraction while enroute to Hangzhou. To cover all the studios, perhaps will need to allocate at least 3-5 days as the studios are spread across the town and some sites are only open in the afternoon. They have remarkable area of autumn leaves, with a palette of changing colours, green, yellow, orange, red 😍 Address: 3628 Sonobe, Kiyama, Miyaki District, Saga 841-0203, Japan Opening: 0830 ~ 1730

Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong
Afternoon tea with girlfriends at Four Season. Tea set are absolutely refreshing and mouthwatering! Among the varieties , mille-feuille with foie gras and kumquat-yuzu jelly really stand out but my personal favourite would be the truffle brie cheese with kumquat-honey jam and walnut puff as toppings. We were sort of upgraded to 45th floor, with amazing view of the harbour and bottomless champagne/wine/white wine. I would say it’s pretty amazing! #hightea #girlfriends #girlstime #afternoontea #hotel #hongkong #ladies
