Sunday night. My friend and I are passing by Tsipourito after a horrible experience at a near-by restaurant. We were under the impression that Tsipourito was closed on Sunday nights, otherwise this would have been our initial choice. When we saw that the lights were on we looked at each other and headed straight in. It was late, 11 am, but the owner had a very warm welcome for us. We asked if it was late to sit down and eat but he assured us that it wasn&#39;t. They had new additions to the menu (they have a standard menu with seasonal additions, I love that!) and we wished we could order everything because everything seemed wonderful. We got: -Spring rolls with goat cheese and honey sauce. Amazing! The goat cheese filling was rich and creamy, the phyllo was crispy (no sign of oil) and the honey sauce was complimenting the spring rolls. -Meatballs. If you are Greek, these will remind you of your mum&#39;s cooking. Crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, peppery and wonderful. -Courgette fritters. Fluffy and cheesy, with lots of mint. VERY good. -Skioufihta. Traditional Cretan pasta with staka (Cretan butter), soft Cretan cheese, and cured ham. Oh-my-God (Janice style). Heaven on a plate with no exaggeration. You MUST try this! It&#39;s one of the best things I&#39;ve ever tasted! We washed our food down with 200ml of the house tsipouro. I must mention that this was tsipouro of excellent quality and taste. It had a fruity feeling that made you want to drink more but it was also light. Very nice. I asked the owner and he said that a friend of his owns the distillery. Kudos to the friend, this was GOOD tsipouro! Since I expressed my feelings about it, he brought us another bottle on the house. A very generous gesture! The bill was 25 euros and it came with a plate of home-made chocolate &quot;salami&quot; (traditional dessert with chocolate and biscuits, which is cut in slices and resembles salami). Another generous gesture, we felt like royalties! Needless to say that I am going back and

It was the Holy Thursday of the Greek Easter and my hungry friend and I were trying to decide where to eat. In Greece, during Lent, we don&#39;t eat meat/chicken, fish, dairy, butter... well, anything of animal origin is forbidden during Holy Week. Although there are still many options, finding a restaurant that will cook them well is not a very easy task. Thama was the easy answer to a difficult question and after a short metro ride to Holargos station (blue line) we were enjoying the sun and reading the special lunch menu of the day. There were quite a few options to choose from, all proper for lent and all sounding oh-so-yummy. Our choices were: -Green beans dip. Made with the famous PDO Rovitsa beans, smooth and tasty, topped with spring onions and extra virgin olive oil. -Oven-baked butter beans. With tomato and several herbs and spices, the ideal sauce for dipping Thama&#39;s fresh bread. -Armyrikia (boiled greens that grow near the sea). With fresh lemon and extra virgin olive oil. A simple, yet divine, plate that yells &quot;summer is here, summer is here, be happy&quot;! -Chips. One of Athens&#39; best chips. Thick cut, with the skin, crispy and wonderful. -Stuffed tomatoes and peppers. Grandma&#39;s style. With the perfect type of rice (similar to the one we use for risotto), lots of herbs and chopped veggies, with oven potatoes on the side. -A second portion of butter beans. Because one was not enough. We drank 3 pints of their white house wine, perhaps the best house wine of Athens. It&#39;s so aromatic, it feels like drinking wine made in heaven and not earth. For all the above we paid less than 50 euros (it was a little over 45 but I can&#39;t remember the exact number). The bill came with two pieces of chocolate dessert made with dark chocolate, tahini, digestive biscuits, raisins and various nuts. Perfect for Lent but not just then. It was so delicious that I made it at home on the next day and I am planning to repeat it many, many, many times! Service was immaculate (as always). One

This is the second review that I&#39;m writing for Tsipourito and I&#39;m so glad that nothing has changed since I wrote the first one. They still manage to create the perfect meze by using fresh ingredients, playing with traditional recipes, adding alcohol to dips and sauces, and cooking food that you talk about it days after you&#39;ve eaten it. I will not bore you with the details of what I ate at my recent meal there because they were on the process of changing the menu. They do that often, which means that you will never get bored eating at Tsipourito, even if you do it once in a month. There will always be something new, domething different, something to make you say &quot;now how did they think of that&quot;! I can assure you that whatever you choose to eat will be delicious and made with love, care and ingredients of very good quality. If they don&#39;t find a raw material of their liking, they prefer not to cook something on that day. Their alcoholic drinks are very good and in a very satisfactory viariety. I have tried ouzo, raki and wine, and although I drink a lot there is never a sign of a hangover on the next day. Price-wise, you will not exceed 20 euros per person even if you like your drinkies. The bill will come with a nice, home made dessert on the house. Tsipourito is a few minutes walk from Holargos metro station (blue line) which makes it just 15 minutes away from down town Athens.
