The Municipal Building is a 40-story building, a large-scale building built to increase office space after the merger of the city's five districts in 1898, started in 1907 and ended in 1914. The building also influenced public buildings in other American cities. There are 25 floors of office space and 15 more on the tower. The building was designated a New York City landmark in 1966 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972.
