Red Square is located in the center of Moscow, which is the capital of Russia. On the banks of the Moscow River, it is the oldest square in the city, and is a witness to many important historical events. During important Russian holidays it is a place for mass gatherings, large celebrations, and military parades. It is an famous tourist place of interest as well. Nothing can surpass Red Square as the most famous square in Moscow. Due to the fact that the main roads of Moscow all begin at Red Square and extend to all parts, Red Square is seen as the central plaza of Moscow. The original name of Red Square was “krasnyi” which means “market.” The predecessor of this was the late 15th Century area for “Commerce and Industry Area Outside the City” created by Ivan III. In 1517 there was a large fire in the square, and thereafter for a period of time it was called the “Fire Square.” In 1662 the name was changed to “Red Square” meaning “the Beautiful Square.” The surface area of Red Square is 91,000 sq. m., in the shape of a rectangle oriented north to south, with the eastern and western sides being narrower, with an approximate length of 695 meters and width of 130 meters. After the 17th century, this square became the business center of Moscow, and an important site where the Tsar’s important governmental edicts were publicly read and where returning victorious troops were inspected. After the victory of the October revolution in 1917, Moscow became the capital of Russia, and Red Square became the site where national large-scale ceremonies, assemblies, and military parades were held.

Moscow Red Square ⛰[Scenic Spot Guide] 📍Detailed address: Red Square, Moscow. 🚗Transportation guide: airplane, train 🕙Opening hours: all day 💰Ticket price: 🌟Highlight features: North of Red Square is the State Historical Museum of Russia. The museum is a treasure trove of Russian culture and art, with a large collection of cultural relics and a systematic display of the long history, culture, and craft of Russia. It also has a dedicated academic research institution, publishing papers and books related to the museum's collections, and working hard to preserve and promote Russian culture. To the east of Red Square is the Moscow State Department Store, also known as "GUM", which was built in 1893 and has become one of the top ten famous department stores in the world. Rather than a store, it is more like a palace, with a European classical style yellow building and a colorful church next to it, forming a beautiful scenery on Red Square. "GUM" is a three-story building with a glass roof and three large arches, consisting of more than a thousand shops, featuring Russian specialties such as porcelain, handicrafts, clothing, and department stores, as well as a wide range of imported goods. On the south side of Red Square is the Cathedral of Vasily the Blessed, which is a Russian Orthodox church displaying the folk architectural style of 16th century Russia. The main entrance of the eight-tower cathedral faces the ambulatory of the central church, so the entire interior of the church can be viewed from any entrance. The exterior of the church is surrounded by corridors and stairs. The entire cathedral is cleverly composed of nine towers, standing on a high pedestal, with eight colorful and full-bodied towers clustered around the central tower. To the west of Red Square is Lenin's Mausoleum, a famous building in Moscow. Located on the west side of Red Square, it is built of red granite and black basalt. The body of the proletarian revolution mentor Lenin is placed here. 📌Small tip: picturesque scenery, beautiful architecture
