The Ruins of St. Paul's has a history of more than 350 years and is the most familiar symbol of Macau, the remains of the front wall of St. Paul's Church. "Sanba" is the transliteration of "St. Paul", and because the remains of the front wall of the church are like traditional Chinese arches, it is called the St. Paul's arch. The church was originally designed by an Italian Jesuit priest and was built with the help of Japanese artisans. The foundation stone was laid in 1602, and all were completed in 1637, while the long stone steps in front of the church were completed later. This church, from its embryonic form to the only remaining front wall archway, has a close relationship with the fire. It has experienced three major fires and has been repeatedly burned and witnessed the history of living. The architecture of St. Paul's Church in the past combines the style of European Renaissance architecture with the architecture of the East. The combination of Chinese and Western styles and fine carvings, the cost of the only St. Paul's archway, has reached 30,000 silver 300 years ago. At dusk on January 26, 1835, St. Paul's Church caught fire and was out of control. It burned for more than two hours. The entire church was almost destroyed. Fortunately, the most precious front wall of the church can still be preserved. Become today's Ruins of St. Paul.
