The church on vacation in 1811, designed by Thomas Hardwick, survived the bombing during the Second World War. Apart from the fragments of its windows, when the church reopened in the year of the founding of New China, there were many contemporary art exhibitions in the garden.

Saint Marylebone Anglican Church was built in the early nineteenth century. It was where the poets, Robert and Elizabeth Barrett Browning, were married in 1841. There is a chapel in the back named in their honor.
