The secret realm of Western Sichuan | The Genie Cabin is truly stunning
The Genie Cabin is truly stunning.
The Alpine cabins of Western Sichuan
Here, you can fulfill all your imaginations of the beauty of Western Sichuan: snow-capped mountains and glaciers, rivers and lakes, forests and grasslands, wetlands and hot springs, etc.
Here, you can also satisfy your longing for the culture of Western Sichuan: ancient temples, ancient post stations, ancient villages, ancient watchtowers, ancient caves, and ancient rock paintings.
Here, hidden away, is a secluded wooden cabin homestay, wild enough, and ecologically pristine.
At the foot of the sacred Mount Genie, nestled among the continuous peaks, the cabins are scattered across the plateau like stars, dreamlike and fantastical, as if taken straight from the scenes of Heidi and her grandfather.
The cabins are perched on the vast mountainside, each facing the majestic Kaimai Long Peak, allowing you to admire the 'Golden Mountain bathed in sunlight' without leaving the house.
Room types include double rooms, single rooms, four-person rooms, and eight-person rooms, and camping is also an option. The night sky is perfect for star photography, incredibly beautiful.
🌈Surroundings:
The Eye of Genie: Known as 'the eye leading to heaven,' it is about a 20-minute walk from the cabin, with the best viewing period being from September to October each year.
Lao Leng Ancient Temple: A light hiking route, about 5km to and fro, with rushing streams, dense forests, and lively creatures accompanying you along the way.
Ze Ba Village: The blue sky seems within reach, surrounded by snow-capped mountains, with meandering rivers in the valley and colorful wildflowers underfoot.
Ge Mu Village: A hidden gem nestled in the valley, the village is situated by the water and surrounded by forests and snow-capped mountains.
The Genie Mountain Range is like a fairyland
The Genie Mountain, also known as the Genie Sacred Mountain, stands proudly in the center of the Hengduan Mountains and is the highest peak of the Shaluli Mountains, known as the 'Heart of the Hengduan'. Its main peak is the Gangpo Sacred Land (Genie Peak), with an altitude of 6204 meters, making it the third highest peak in Sichuan. Genie Mountain is located within the territory of Litang County, Ganzi Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, with rivers and deep valleys crisscrossing, and petal-like continuous snow mountains surrounding Genie Mountain. It features attractions such as the Eye of Genie, grasslands, marshes, waterfalls, high mountain rock streams, glaciers, snow peaks, and natural ecological systems, as well as cultural landscapes like folk culture and nomadic culture. Genie Mountain is part of the world's largest and most typical ancient ice cap relic, the 'Haizi Mountain ancient ice cap'. In Tibetan, Genie is called 'Gama Ribba'. She is the 13th goddess among the 24 sacred mountains of Tibetan Buddhism in China, and also one of the eight great mandala sacred lands of Vajravarahi. In Tibet, the sacred lands of Vajravarahi are only the Himalayas and Genie Sacred Mountain.
It is said that more than 2900 years ago, Buddha Shakyamuni praised Genie Sacred Mountain as a supreme and pure land for meditation.
The southern route of Genie in Western Sichuan is really, really beautiful
After so many trips to Western Sichuan,
you will still be amazed
how incredibly beautiful the summer on the southern route of Genie is!!
Genie is a place with few people and beautiful scenery, truly a divine level of summer!!
Destination【Southern Route of Genie】
Traveling from Litang along the southern route of Genie, the scenery is picturesque, with wildflowers everywhere in spring and autumn. If time allows, it is recommended to take 2-3 days to complete this route, from Litang to Batang,
If you are short on time or not confident in your driving skills, it is not recommended to cross the southern route of Genie. You can stay overnight in Xiaze Tong and then return to Litang the same way.
🌈【Scenic spots not to be missed along the way】
Yuzixi
If the weather is good, it is recommended to go to Yuzixi to watch the sunset, surrounded by 360° of Mount Gongga and Yala Mountain, the sunset is super romantic.
Litang
This is also the highest city in the world, it is recommended to go directly to the back mountain of Changqing Ke'er Monastery to watch the sunset and the entire city, very beautiful
Xiaze Tong Village
This is Ding Zhen's hometown, with natural hot springs by the road, wildflowers covering the hillsides, and little wooden cabins facing Mount Genie and several snow-capped mountains, as if walking into the movie of Heidi and her grandfather.
👓Eye of Genie
This season, the Eye of Genie doesn't have much water, but it is surrounded by snow-capped mountains! If you can wait for the sunset here, that beautiful scene is still fresh in my memory!
Ze Ba Village
My favorite village on the southern route of Genie, facing Mount Genie directly, it's also a good choice to have a picnic or camp on a lawn.

❶The route from Chengdu to Tagong is the busiest with many cars and people. Once you pass Tagong and go further in, there are fewer and fewer people, and it is recommended to have some food in the car in case of traffic jams.
❷The first half of the southern route of Genie has good road conditions, the second half has poor road conditions and it is recommended to use an off-road vehicle.
❸The temperature changes greatly in high-altitude areas, be sure to bring a thick coat, it's very cold when it rains or on cloudy days.

Self-driving in Western Sichuan | Six Essential Things to Know Before Visiting the Eye of Genie, Unlocking the Essence of Off-the-Beaten-Path Attractions
The sixth record of my self-driving trip in Western Sichuan
Setting off from Litang, we traversed the southern route of Genie, and the ultimate beauty filled every photo we took. While organizing the photos on the computer, Cai Cai Juan'er felt the endless play of light and shadow was about to spill out of the screen, transforming the small square world of the room. In this issue, Cai Cai Juan'er summarizes six essential things to know before visiting the Eye of Genie based on our self-driving experience, so you won't miss the highlights along the way. Among them, three are less known, so don't miss them when you pass by during your self-drive.
❶ Please stop at the Tieshan Mountain Service Area (Photos 2, 3)
The service area is the first stop on the southern route through Genie, with a nearby lake where you can walk to the lakeside. When the weather is clear, the colors are dreamily blue.
Driving past the service area, you begin to ascend, and halfway up the mountain, there is a natural stone slope parking area where visitors can get their first distant view of the Genie mountain peaks. There is a huge boulder on the outer edge, suitable for visitors to take photos.
❷ Don't miss the Tieshan Mountain Pass (Photos 4–6)
The Tieshan Mountain Pass is the first high point on the southern route through Genie. Here, the Genie peaks appear clearly in the visitors' view for the first time. There are several parking areas here, all worth stopping at to enjoy the view.
❸ The Yilaka Viewing Platform is a highlight (Photos 7–9)
After that, the Genie peaks will temporarily disappear from the visitors' view. After reaching Genie Town, there are two roads to the Eye of Genie. If you choose the road through the village, the peaks will suddenly appear close at hand, and most visitors will be amazed and touched by the sight. This is the Yilaka Viewing Platform, where you can view the Genie peaks up close. From the main peak of Genie, which is 6240 meters high, to the left are Xiao Zha, Ka Qing Mailong, and other peaks ranging from 5000 to 6000 meters in altitude.
❹ The Genie Peak Viewing Platform is a hidden gem (Photos 10–12)
Leaving Yilaka and continuing forward, there is a viewing platform ahead that requires a hike to the top, which is very niche. The view from the peak can be described as divine. Here, the main focus is on the main peak of Genie Mountain, which is 6240 meters high.
❺ This is how to photograph the Eye of Genie (Photos 13–15)
After leaving the village, the paved road turns into a dirt road. However, when the weather is clear, the road conditions are still passable, and sedans can travel on it.
Upon arrival, we found that the Eye of Genie is not only the eye that illuminates the hinterland of Genie but also a mirror reflecting the Genie peaks. Therefore, when taking photos, in addition to the classic overhead drone position, you can also capture the reflection of the snow-capped mountains from a level perspective.
❻ Things to note on a self-drive trip
📱 Navigation: Enter from the main gate of the Genie scenic area in Litang and set 'Eye of Genie' as your destination, with scenic views along the way.
🛣️ Road conditions: The road conditions are good before reaching the village, with asphalt roads making up the majority. After the village, it becomes a mountainous dirt road, and it is not recommended for sedans to travel in rainy or snowy weather.
⏳ Time: It is recommended to arrange a full day to slowly enjoy the scenery.
❄️ Season: All seasons are suitable for visiting. Personally, I think the scenery is better in autumn and winter.
▶️ The above content is summarized based on personal travel experience, please forgive any omissions.
▶️ Due to the timeliness, some scenes may have changed, current conditions prevail.
▶️ Address location information is provided by the website, please leave a message for more detailed information.
▶️ Cai Cai Juan'er and Mr. Dog have traveled to all the attractions accessible by sedan.

Ganzi·Litang|The Litang without Ding Zhen is also beautiful🥰
Litang, worthy of the name Sky City, is really too beautiful!
A city traversed by National Highway 318
To the north of the highway is a continuous range of snow-capped mountains🗻
To the south is a continuous range of grassy slopes ⛰
p1 Qianzang Ancient Village
p2 Snow-capped mountains can be seen everywhere
p3 The road directly opposite the gate of Changqingchun Keer Temple
p4 A steep slope going up the road on the left side of Changqingchun Keer Temple, this road cannot go back, you have to go around the temple (I am too afraid of steep slopes, luckily there are locals to help me)
p5-p7 Go up the stairs on the right side of Changqingchun Keer Temple, it is the top of the mountain, you can see the whole Litang, super beautiful!
p8 The local old lady who helped me up the slope
p9 Litang West City Gate

Litang | The golden light envelops the sincere faith of the city in the sky
I came to the highest city in the world - Litang, where the magnificent scenery made me fascinated. Standing on the high ground of the city, I can overlook the beautiful scenery of the entire city, surrounded by mountains and clouds, as if I were in a fairyland.
Litang is a quiet and quaint small town, with wide and clean streets, and the architectural style is full of Tibetan characteristics. Walking on the street, I can feel the leisure and ease of the people here. They are hospitable, smiling, and gave me a feeling of being at home. In Litang, I was fortunate enough to taste the local special cuisine. Tibetan butter tea and roasted lamb skewers are my favorites, each bite is full of rich Tibetan flavor. The food here makes me more fascinated by Tibetan culture.
Day1:
Changqingchun Ke'er Temple → Dongshan Top → Renkang Ancient Street → White Pagoda Park → West City Gate
Changqingchun Ke'er Temple, also known as Zada Shen Mountain Ritual Hall Temple: You can take photos outside the temple 📷, the photos taken in the temple are particularly atmospheric, and you can also go to the back mountain of the temple to watch the sunrise, which is very spectacular.
Dongshan Top is the best place to watch the panoramic view of Litang Qianhu Tibetan Village and Ritual Hall Temple. Coming here will definitely harvest beautiful photos that will blow up your circle of friends.
Renkang Ancient Street is located in a ancient street in the middle of the Qianhu Tibetan Village. There are many emerging industries in the ancient street, such as catering, photography, cultural creativity, micro museums, homestays, etc.
There are many white pagodas in the White Pagoda Park, and there are many Tibetans. Follow the Tibetans around the prayer wheel to pray sincerely. It is said that turning around once and turning around three times have different meanings. West City Gate 318 landmark internet celebrity check-in point.
Zaga Shen Mountain: The altitude is 4135 meters, and half of the existing 18 kilometers of Qishan is green-brown rock, and the other half is easily stacked with green.
Day2:
Litang-Xiaze Tong Village (via: Blacksmith Mountain Pass-Blacksmith Mountain Heart-shaped Lake-Nahai-Genie Cottage-Genie's Eye-Ranri Kabei Hot Spring)
Iron Mountain Pass: The desolate stones are regularly stacked into three passes, and the blue sea is silent at will, like the tears of God spilled on the world, rugged and soft.
Blacksmith Mountain Heart-shaped Lake: Not far from the car passing through the Blacksmith Mountain Pass. What comes into view is a heart-shaped sea, as if in a world of ice blue, which makes people feel happy. The sea passes through the Blacksmith Mountain Pass, along the continuous sky road into the tent village, two pieces of blue suddenly appear in front of you, like two brilliant pearls, and like two drops of tears from the snow mountain spilled in the mountains.
The Eye of Genie: It is called the eye to heaven. On the grassland at the foot of the Genie Mountain, there is a small puddle, reflecting the blue sky and white clouds, and accepting the Genie Peaks. If the weather is good, you can soak in the wild hot spring.
Day 3:
Xiaze Tong Village → Lao Leng Ancient Temple → Litang → Maohe Mountain
Hot spring
Xiaze Tong Village: This is where Ding Zhen grew up, and it is a village where you can see the Ge Nie Snow Mountain when you open the door every day.
The Lao Leng Ancient Temple is 4150 meters above sea level, located in the valley between the Revolution Mountain and the Xianglin Mountain. There are many photo check-in spots along the way
Maohe Mountain
The hot spring is opposite to the gift pond, where you can soak in the pure natural hot spring and see the most beautiful scenery of Litang. Litang can be said to be a paradise on the 318 road, which is beautiful.
If you have time, go watch the sunset at the Changqingchunke'er Temple!
The Litang is the highest county in the world!
It is over 4000 meters above sea level!
It is also the most beautiful 'City in the Sky'!
There is also the famous Gelug monastery in the Kangzang region
Litang Temple!
Litang Temple, also known as Changqingchunke'er Temple
'Changqing' means Maitreya Buddha, and 'Chunke'er' means Dharma Wheel
'Changqingchunke'er' signifies the Dharma Wheel of Maitreya Buddha (indicating the eternal turning of the Dharma Wheel and the everlasting truth)
Litang Temple is located to the north of Litang county town
From here, you can directly go up to the mountain top to overlook the entire Litang
You can either walk to the mountain top or drive directly there
However, it's a pity that we didn't go up the mountain because it was almost sunset when we arrived
📸Photo taken: Mid-August
📷Photography tips:
🟠The temple is magnificent, and the buildings inside are very distinctive. If you happen to catch the monks after their classes, you can take some interesting photos
📍Location: Sichuan, Garze, Litang
🚗Transportation: Navigate to Changqingchunke'er Temple, there is a gate after navigating to the temple, you can drive in and park inside the temple
💰Admission: Free, parking fee required
❗TIPS:
❤️If you go early, you can drive up the mountain along the road to the left of the temple, be careful at night!
🧡Be mindful of civilized tourism within the temple, do not disturb the local monks too much!
💛Practice civilized tourism, do not litter! Along the way, you will see people littering, let's despise them together!

-
❣️About altitude sickness:
It is recommended to gradually enter from low-altitude areas, it is recommended not to directly land at the airport, if you feel uncomfortable while playing, stop and breathe slowly, prepare a portable oxygen cylinder in advance! 🗺️Our itinerary is from Chengdu, the attractions along the way are gradually increasing from low to high, to the greatest extent possible to reduce the possibility of altitude sickness
-
🏨Accommodation:
➡️People who can adapt to high-altitude areas can choose hotels in Litang County
➡️If you are passing through Litang, it is recommended to stay in Yajiang or Batang, where the altitude is lower and more comfortable
-
💡Travel Tips:
👉🏻Don't buy oxygen cylinders and oxygen water in the scenic area, oxygen cylinders are very expensive, and oxygen water is pure IQ tax
👉🏻The air on the plateau is thin and the sun is strong, be sure to pay attention to sun protection and moisturizing, apply sunscreen, wear a hat and sunglasses
👉🏻No matter what season you go, you must keep warm! The temperature difference between day and night on the plateau is large, and a cold can cause altitude sickness
👉🏻Respect local culture, don't touch the heads of Tibetan children, ask before taking pictures of others!

History Filled Tibetan Town in the Clouds ☁️
At 4000m altitude, Litang is not only heralded as one of the highest towns in the world, but it is also known as one of the best preserved Tibetan old towns in China. Beautiful, quaint and dripping with culture, Litang’s ancient town is something special.
Situated in Western Sichuan, the historic old town of Litang is void of the crowds and junky souvenir shops that you typically find in old towns across China.
Filled with museums, chanting pilgrims, local artisanal shops and tea houses, Litang has a rich Tibetan history, including being the birthplace of the 7th and 10th Dalai Lamas.
To get there, you take a local bus from Kangding (towards Chengdu) or from Daocheng (towards Yading Scenic area).

Youth has no price, cycling straight to Lhasa, it turns out that many people really go to Tibet alone
I come from afar, just for a date with you, Tibet will always be there, but I am only young once, I thought what I dreamed of was true love and freedom. But when I found that it seemed a bit far away to get both at the same time, it's better to pursue freedom this time, and look for true love in the rest of my life.
Ding Zhen's hometown, the highest city in the world - Litang, is very beautiful
⭐️Today we came to Litang, which is also Ding Zhen's hometown, the highest city in the world! The altitude here exceeds 4000. After a few days of plateau adaptation, there is no obvious altitude sickness, but you must slow down when walking, because walking too fast is still a bit panting.
🗻We considered the altitude problem in Litang and did not stay overnight. We only spent half a day visiting and finally stayed in Yajiang, a low-altitude area, about two and a half hours drive from Litang.
Litang tour route:
✅Qianhu Tibetan Village·Letong Ancient Town: The old town of Litang, I think it is very similar to Barkhor Street in Lhasa. There is a strong commercial atmosphere here, and there are many miniature museums. The flow of people is very large during holidays. The ancient town is beautiful, and it is quite good to take pictures and check in. I saw many young ladies taking portraits in Tibetan costumes. There are rental clothing and photography services outside and inside the ancient town. It is recommended to visit for 1-2 hours.
✅Changqing Chunkeer Temple: This is also called Litang Temple. It is the oldest and largest Tibetan Buddhist Gelug temple in Kang District. If you overlook the panoramic view of Litang, you can drive up from the back mountain road by yourself, which is really convenient without climbing! This is also the sunset viewing point in Litang. There are steps on the way to take pictures, and it is very pictorial to shoot from top to bottom.
Tiejiangshan Pass Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in Apr)
Annual Travel Recap | The Best Scenery on the Road: Every rest area on the Genie South Route is worth stopping for
This year, I've driven around Guangxi, visited Qinghai and Gansu three times, and spent two months on the Sichuan-Tibet and Yunnan-Tibet ancient Tea Horse Road themed trip, where Mr. Dog and I have seen countless beautiful landscapes on the road. Yes, the essence of a road trip is to record the scenery along the way. Next, I will introduce to my friends the scenery along the Genie South Route, which is the best scenery we've encountered on the road this year.
Sixth Self-Drive Trip in Western Sichuan
Whether the weather was good, the season was right, or the people were the same, every moment of the journey on the Genie South Route that day was memorable.
— Travel Notes by Mr. Dog and Cai Cai Juan Er
Here we saw—
❶ The clear Genie massif
From the first pass, Tiejianshan, on the Genie South Route, the Genie massif greets the highway, accompanying the journey of self-driving tourists with the changing scenery by the roadside, making it fascinating and lingering. At every rest area, we stopped to look up at the sacred mountain with a calm heart.
❷ The colorful undulating meadows
The undulating meadows under the snow-capped mountains have their own splendid colors in each season. We stepped onto this vast land during the transition between autumn and winter: the golden color of the meadows was still flowing freely, indicating that the new snow of winter was eager to come and cuddle. Every step we took felt like wandering in a dream.
❸ The bright large and small lakes
Upon closer observation, between the snow and the wilderness, there are large and small lakes hidden. As the light and shadows flow, they synchronize with the colors of the sky and interpret them with bright hues. We, from a distance, took in the performance of the lakes, imprinting it in our eyes and hearts.
📌 Practical Q&A for Self-Driving Travel

A: The section shared in this note does not require an entrance fee, and it's free to visit.
❹ Q: How are the road conditions?
A: The section shared in this note is all asphalt road surface, and it's passable for sedans.

TranscontinentalTales*123 Annual Travel Review | The first pass of the Ge'nyi South Line is so stunning
In 2023, Cai Cai Juan'er and Mr. Dog walked through Guangxi, Gansu, Qinghai, Western Sichuan, Tibet and Yunnan. This year we are still self-driving on the road, and we have still found countless niche good places.
This time we finally unlocked the long-grassed Ge'nyi South Line in Western Sichuan. As soon as the self-driving trip started, we found one of the most beautiful niche attractions of the year. Next, please go to Yunyou with us.
The sixth self-driving tour of Western Sichuan
Ge'nyi South Line, we finally came.
Thousands of miles of clear sky, romantic mountains and rivers, although the road is bad, we move forward resolutely.
Departing from Litang, after registering at the gate, the staff gave us a note of precautions for each car, asked about the oil volume, and began the journey of high-altitude climbing between the mountains.
The road conditions are very good, and there are few passing vehicles. When we arrived at the first pass of the Ge'nyi South Line: Tiejiang Mountain, we stopped several times and encountered several fairylands. Below, share with your friends the beautiful scenery along the way that can be circled and dotted.
1⃣️Start up the mountain, look back at Litang
As soon as we entered the entrance of the Ge'nyi South Line, we were attracted by the vast meadows and nearby mountains. We went after a snowfall, and the cold air added a new color to everything on the earth. Looking forward, the endless snow-capped mountains guide us into the secret realm; looking back, Litang surrounded by colorful grasslands sends us to a bright future.
📷Photo location: parking area along the way. After parking the car, you can enter the grassland to take pictures.
2⃣️Downhill to the lake, climb the stone to overlook the sea
Tiejiang Mountain Service Area is the first large parking area through the Ge'nyi South Line. There is a beautiful sea here (meaning lake, the same below), because the small road down to the lake is on the side of the parking area and is ignored by many tourists. In addition, starting from the parking area and continuing up the mountain, there is a small wild parking area halfway up, and there is a huge rock on the outer edge, which is a natural platform overlooking the sea, and from this position, you can also look at the main peak of Ge'nyi Mountain. This is the first time that Ge'nyi Peak has revealed its true face on this road.
📷Photo guide: You can go down to the sea along the small road to take pictures. Below the boulder is not a cliff, but a large slope, but sitting on it can take a cliff 'photo cheat' feeling.
3⃣️The pass is stunning, and Ge'nyi is seen for the first time
I believe that every friend who has been to the pass and seen the full view of the main peak of Ge'nyi Mountain will sigh for it. When we first met Ge'nyi in the colorful season like a picture scroll, we were even more amazed.
The journey of that day, every moment of cloud rolling and cloud shrouding, performed the story of time beautifully. Our journey can be described as perfect.
