Commemorate the father of modern China
The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is a large building in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, built a few years after the death of Sun Yat-sen, founder and president of the Republic of China. It's an excellent modern example of Lingnan (southern Chinese) architecture.
Getting There - The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is easily accessed from Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall Station and Yuexiu Park Station on metro line 2.
Attractions - Access to the grounds is free but a ticket (¥10) is required to enter the building, where there's an exhibition about the life and times of Dr Sun Yat-sen. Concerts are also sometimes held in the main hall.
From behind the memorial hall, enter Yuexiu Park and climb several hundred stairs to reach another Sun Yat-sen memorial, a huge stone obelisk. It's usually possible to climb to the viewing platform of this tower, though not to the top.
Why go - The Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall is a popular spot for photos, especially with the statue of the venerable doctor, and the grounds are a welcome green space in the otherwise densely packed Yuexiu District. It's a good place to learn more about the life and legacy of this important man in the development of modern China.

This is Mr. Sun Yat-sen's vision of a beautiful country for the future! Unfortunately, the road to realization is a long way off... Through the visit, when I saw the construction of the memorial hall here, the government of the Republic of China gave all the residents of the land acquisition compensation money, and there was no violent forced demolition phenomenon...
