Experienced Spring in Kyoto and it was amazing! we went during this season to view cherry blossoms and we were not disappointed. The beautiful blooms were everywhere and Philosopher's Path deserves a 👍. There's not much crowd on that morning we were there. The trees lined the river and pathways perfectly as you can see here. Along the way, there's small cafes, shops and small temples/shrines. I’ve always wanted to go here even the first time I heared the name “Philosopher’s path”. And it never dissapointed me. This path follows a canal which is lined by hundreds of cherry and mapple trees. Approximately two kilometers long, the path begins around Ginkakuji (Silver Pavilion) and ends in the neighborhood of Nanzenji. The Philosopher’s Path, or Walk, is a great place to visit all year round, as the scenery offers something unique for every season. During autumn season it offer the chance for reflection, the leaves invite a more zen appreciation, often lost in the merriment of spring’s hanami. Here’s my top 6 viewing spot for Sakura in Kyoto, based on my 2023 solo trip: 📍Arashiyama 嵐山: take a stroll along the river bank, hop into the Sagano romantic trains or take a boat while going down the river. This is one of the places to enjoy cherry blossoms differently. 📍Keage Incline 蹴上インクライン: abandoned railway track framed with cherry blossoms, before taking a break at Blue Bottle Coffee 📍Kiyamachi Dori 木屋町通: enjoy an evening walk under the cherry blossoms after dinner at the Pontocho Alley. 📍Philosopher's Walk 哲学の道: Approximately two kilometres long, this is my favourite spot. The Philosopher's Path(aka Philosopher's Walk; 哲学の道) is a pedestrian path along the cherry tree-lined shallow irrigation channel. It's a gorgeous place to go for a stroll when the cherry trees are in full bloom. Located in the Northern Higashiyama district, between Ginkaku-ji and Nanzen-ji. This path is 2 km in length and takes roughly 30 minutes to walk, but it can take longer during the cherry blossoms season due to the crowds of both locals and tourists who flock to the path. Keage Inclined Track, Nanzenji Temple, Way of Philosophy Compared with the turbulent crowds of Gion, Kiyomizu Temple, and Arashiyama, this area is relatively quieter. Residential houses, temples, schools, shrines, art galleries... live next to each other without interfering with each other. There are many high-end homestays and kiosks hidden in the houses in this area. No wonder philosophers can walk here and realize the Tao. When you get out of Keage Station on the subway, you will be on the inclined railway immediately. This is an abandoned railway that was originally used to transport cargo ships from Lake Biwa. The cherry blossoms on both sides of the road are dense, very romantic atmosphere. It is also a popular place for travel and wedding photography. Adjacent is Nanchan Temple, no tickets are required, there is no smoke and mist from incense, only the sound of birdsong in the breeze and the beautiful scenery of cherry blossoms falling. Visitors who come here are also quietly, walking or sitting, quietly enjoying the flowers and fresh greenery. After leaving Nanchan Temple and walking a few steps along the residential area, you will arrive at the entrance of the Way of Philosophy. This long river trail is said to be even more stunningly beautiful during the cherry blossom season. Regardless, it's a beautiful corner to wander around and think about.

Philosopher's Walk is a picturesque and easy walking path located in Kyoto, Japan. The stone path is just 2 km/1.2 miles long and runs from Ginkaku-ji Temple to Nanzen-ji Temple, making it a perfect addition to your temple visit. The peaceful walk is not too crowded, and follows a small winding stream with small cafes and shops along the way taking you through quiet residential neighborhoods. There are little bridges along the way allowing you to cross from one bank to the other. The nature path is lined with hundreds of cherry trees which are still in blossom now. Along the way, you can stop at several temples and shrines with beautiful gardens and historic architecture. The surroundings are so serene, it really does not feel like you are in the city but in a countryside. I really enjoyed the relaxing sounds of flowing water and the chirping of birds along the entire route, it's a very peaceful experience.
