It was a really nice day with a lovely strong sea breeze. We had driven for almost two hours from Niseko along the coast and arrived at around 10am. There were not many people on the walk. The panoramic coastal views were magnificent. The path although undulating, was not difficult. We could not complete the entire route because about 15 to 20 minutes later a guy came up and said the path was closed to all visitors because of strong winds. We then returned the way we came. The guy went on towards the tip of the cape (most likely to get the other visitors on the path to go back). Despite not being able to walk towards the tip of the cape, we felt lucky to have seen some of the views along the walk. Certainly it is the place that you cannot miss it if you drive a long way from Sapporo. The scenic is breath taking.

The Jakdan Peninsula has been known as the little secret place of Hokkaido, and the northernmost village of Shin-Hui Nei Village, the "Land of Women Forbidden", is definitely the top recommendation. This line brings together coastline walks, authentic seasonal food, lighthouse photos and coastal trail hiking. As long as you encounter good weather, the scenery along the coast under the blue sky and white clouds is really spectacular. No wonder locals say "Jiadan is so beautiful but there are not many tourists".
🧭Jiadan Peninsula Attractions Inventory
1️⃣ Shenhui Inner Village. A forbidden place for women
Women used to be prohibited from entering this place due to their faith, adding an air of mystery. In fact, the best part is that you can walk to the northernmost coast, with the azure sea in front of you, and a lighthouse nearby as a photo spot. If your stamina is OK, you can take 2-3 hours in advance to walk the trail to the top, looking back at the entire coast is super healing. There is a chance of closure in winter, so pay attention to the official opening before you leave. Summer and autumn are best for seaweed season - August to September, seaweed is super fresh, you really can't go back after eating!
2️⃣ Coastal Walk on the Jetty Peninsula
Whether digesting after eating seaweed or looking for food on an empty stomach, it is recommended to walk around the coastline. The camera must prepare more memory cards! Blue sky with sun deep blue sea + rocks
3️⃣ Jardin Seaweed Don Restaurant
The most famous jacktan is of course the seaweed bowl! Many small shops along Jakdan-cho, Jakdan County offer fresh seaweed bowls, and when you go at lunch time, almost everyone is smiling at a large bowl of seaweed with rice. (Recommended August to September must try)
Opening hours: Approx 10:30-17:00, peak season crowded need to queue
🗺️ Practical transportation & scenic spot tips
- The Jakdan Peninsula is open all day year round, with some trails and scenic spots temporarily closed depending on the season or weather (mostly during winter and especially when bears are infested). It is recommended to check local announcements before departure.
- It is recommended to drive more convenient to stop at any time along the way to see the view, because I went three times did not feel a bus through 🥶🥶
- There is sun in summer on the coast of Jacquet, sunscreen to do enough + bring a windbreaker to prevent sea wind, shoes remember to wear comfortable, suitable for hiking.
- Full score recommendation 8-September come seaweed season, eat fresh to the incredible Jacquiao seaweed, back to other places feel "copycat version" 🤣
🍚Jiedan must-eat delicacies
- Seaweed Don (August-September only)

Cape Jadan — Experience the beautiful secrets off the coast of Hokkaido, Japan!
The best thing here is the sea views and natural scenery, and there are fewer tourists, not commercialized, photography will not be blocked, really relax away from the hustle and bustle.
The most famous attraction in Cape Jakdan is Cape Shenwei, and although transportation is not very convenient, you can definitely arrange a day/half-day tour if you drive or check the bus times in advance.
Recommended Route:
It is recommended to start from Jakdan-cho and drive or take a bus to the Kamui Cape parking lot. Then walk along Cape Road to the observation deck, which takes about 20-30 minutes (more relaxing, great scenery on the way). Especially suitable for those who like to take pictures or want to quietly look at the scenery without crowding with others.

A quick road trip from Sapporo landed me in the heart of Hokkaido’s photogenic gems: Otaru Canal, Shakotan’s Cape Kamui, and the magical Ningle Terrace in Furano 😎🌊🏞️. These are the must-see spots if you’re chasing scenery and chilled-out vibes in Northern Japan!
Top Spots to Visit:
1. Otaru Canal (047-0007 Minatomachi, Otaru, Hokkaido, open year-round): Stroll the charming waterfront, snap those iconic retro lamplight shots, and dip into the cozy cafés lining the canal for a perfect start to your day.
2. Cape Kamui (Kozakicho, Shakotan, 046-0321): This cape is *wow* — think epic ocean views and dramatic cliffs! Opening hours shift with the season, so check times before you go (as early as 8:00 or as late as 10:00 opening, closing around 15:00–18:30).
3. Ningle Terrace (Nakagoryo, Furano, 076-8511): It’s a fairy-tale wooden village tucked in a forest, filled with local craft shops. Opening hours vary, but usually late morning until evening (best after dark for the lit-up paths!).
Travel Hack: 🚗 Book a day trip from Sapporo instead of trying to DIY it with public transport. Attractions are spread out — you’ll save money, have less hassle, and can actually fit everything into one ambitious day!
Getting Around: Arrange your day-trip tour online via trip.com, or hire a private transfer if you want max flexibility.
Food: Try Otaru’s fresh sushi near the canal, and warm up with Furano cheese pizza or soft-serve nearby Ningle Terrace.
Destination Tips: No special visa needed for most tourists. Bring enough cash as small shops may not accept cards. Hokkaido’s weather can be unpredictable, so pack layers.
