Rich vs. ordinary travelers: this is how to truly enjoy Tahiti!
IVY BYRDE
I rarely travel far, usually preferring a quiet weekend at home in Jakarta with my books and plants. However, a recent trip to Huahine Island was a welcome change of pace. It is a slow, unhurried place.
A few things that left an impression during the stay:
1. The slow ride
Renting a bicycle to ride through the coastal villages and coconut groves was peaceful. It cost very little, and there was no traffic to worry about.
2. Ravayi Beach
Unlike the typical crowded tourist spots, this beach was mostly empty. The water was clear, and it was a good spot to just sit and watch the afternoon pass.
3. The local market
Visiting the traditional market on Wednesday felt authentic. I tried the raw fish salad with coconut milk, which was simple, fresh, and quite comforting.
One small detail: the sun here is quite harsh, so proper protection is necessary. If you prefer lively nightlife or luxury resorts, I wouldn't personally recommend this island. But if you value quiet moments, it is worth a visit.
