River Plate Stadium
On a continent where soccer fandom is virtually a religion, stadiums are temples. The Estadio Monumental Antonio Vespucio Liberti, where the futbol club River Plate plays, is considered the national stadium of Argentina. It was built in the 1930s, appropriately located on a piece of marshy land on the bank of Rio de la Plata. It has been expanded since then, and today can accommodate 75,000 screaming fans. In addition to hosting soccer matches, the stadium has become a premier venue for big-time musical acts, from Guns N' Roses to Lady Gaga.
