The Tanah Lot is obviously related to the sea. When tides are high, the Tanah Lot will float like a mystical building atop the sea. The thousand year old serpent and the God of the Sea protects residents of the island, shielding them from harm from the sea. The Tanah Lot was first built in the 16th century. Perched atop a huge rock by the seaside, high tides offer really impressive sights. When the rock is surrounded by the sea, the entire temple will be shut off from the ground. Only when the tide sets will it connect to land. A blue sky, even bluer sea has created a beautiful canvas for the Tanah Lot. There is a source at the entrance of Tanah Lot. Legend has it that once a high priest broke apart the rock and a source of spring water came out.
