based on 26 reviewsWenchang Pavilion is a landmark tower in the center of Yangzhou's old city. It was originally part of the Yangzhou Prefecture School complex, built on the Wenjin Bridge that spanned the Wen River.
Standing over 20 m tall, it is a three-story brick-and-wood structure with an octagonal base and arched doorways on all four sides connecting to the surrounding streets. The second and third stories feature windows around the perimeter and taper inward as they rise, crowned with a pointed spire. From a distance, it bears a resemblance to the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests at the Temple of Heaven in Beijing, and it once displayed a plaque reading "Handan Cultural Pivot." The building is surrounded by roads on all sides, creating a striking contrast between modern urban transportation and this traditional tower. Its main structure is visible from various directions along the streets. Especially at night when illuminated, the building's silhouette becomes even more prominent, making it a visual centerpiece of the surrounding urban view.
