Nature exploration, cultural experiences, and fun interactions are perfectly combined. Save this three-day, two-night in-depth travel plan👇
🌟 Core Highlights
✅ Magical Rice Field Journey
📍 Risheng Rice Field Fish Catching (Shangnahui Village)
Roll up your pants and step into the rice fields early morning. Under professional guidance, use bamboo baskets to catch rice flower fish. The 30 RMB per person fee includes waterproof pants and boots rental. The caught fish can be cooked on-site into sour bamboo shoot fish or pan-fried rice flower fish. Kids feel a great sense of achievement eating their own catch! Avoid noon; choose 9-11 AM or 4-6 PM for stunning light and shadow photography in the rice fields.
🚂 Double Rice Field Train Experience
Recommended to take the vintage train on the Shangnahui section in the morning (20 RMB/person), traveling through yellow and green rice fields, with views of Buyi elders herding cattle and farming scenes; in the evening, experience the "Starry Sky" train at the Huitiaohua Square section, decorated with firefly light strings, and enjoy freshly baked rice field mochi sold on board.
✅ Geological Archaeology Adventure
🏛️ Xingyi Geological Museum
Highly recommend the "Triassic Challenge" themed activity (68 RMB/child, parents accompany free). Kids become little archaeologists, using professional tools to dig for ammonites and Guizhou dragon fossil fragments. Completing tasks earns a "Junior Geologist" certificate. The museum’s new 4D theater continuously shows "The Mystery of Dinosaur Extinction," with seats spraying water and vibrating according to the plot, fully engaging the kids.
✅ Ethnic Culture Immersion
🎨 Xu Chaqing Mountain Art Museum Tie-Dyeing
Under the guidance of a Buyi intangible cultural heritage inheritor, kids design their own indigo-dyed handkerchiefs, participating fully from fabric folding to dye soaking. They can wear their self-made indigo headscarves for photos, looking super stylish! They can also take their creations home as travel souvenirs.
🔥 Intangible Cultural Heritage Iron Flower Night
Every night at 8:00 PM at General’s Peak Square, 1600℃ molten iron is splashed into a starry rain. Arrive 30 minutes early to secure a spot; the best viewing point is the viewing platform on the left side of the square. Friendly reminder: free protective goggles are provided on-site, and children must wear them throughout.
🍱 Family Food Map
🍳 General’s Bridge Fried Rice Street
Recommended "Zhou’s Fried Rice," stir-fried with local rapeseed oil, each grain golden, paired with freshly ground soy milk and cold pickled fish mint, about 20 RMB per person to eat until full. Secret tip: add a portion of sour soup beef for a perfect match!
🐟 Fengxi Valley Family Restaurant
Located at the scenic area entrance, specializing in creative countryside dishes. Recommended kids’ set meal (58 RMB/set) includes cartoon-shaped rice balls, vegetable salad, and fresh juice. The restaurant’s backyard has a petting zoo where kids can feed lambs and rabbits after meals.
🍚 Buyi Eight-Dish Feast
Bookable at "Fengxi Banshan Inn," featuring sour bamboo shoot fish, five-color glutinous rice, chicken eight pieces, and other specialties served in bamboo woven boxes. Kids are especially interested in the colorful glutinous rice. The restaurant also offers Buyi children’s costume rentals, creating a great atmosphere for dining and photos.

📌 Practical Tips
🚗 Transportation Tips:
✈️ Direct flights to Xingyi Wanfenglin Airport are the most convenient. The airport car rental offers child safety seat rentals (50 RMB/day). Inside the scenic area, it’s highly recommended to rent family electric scooters (100 RMB/day), which can carry two adults and one child freely through villages, much more flexible than sightseeing buses.
🌞 Heat Protection Gear:
Average temperature at the end of August is 25-30℃, prepare:
✅ Sun protection set (arm sleeves, fisherman's hat, SPF50+ sunscreen)
✅ Quick-dry clothes + creek shoes (essential for rice field activities)
✅ Mosquito repellent bracelets + lithospermum ointment (mosquitoes are more active in the evening)
📸 Photography Tips:
1. Best sightseeing bus photo spot: Jinxiu Tianyuan Viewing Platform (captures peak forest and bagua rice fields in one frame)
2. Family interaction shots: Use burst mode to capture splashing water moments during rice field fish catching
3. Best light and shadow time: 5:30-6:30 PM, sightseeing bus against the light, easy to capture Tyndall beams

I went during the off-season. There are so many waterfalls, and the water flow is huge. This type of canyon scenery, with its deep fissures, is definitely top-notch in China. The entire visit took two and a half to three hours; we got completely soaked. Highly recommended!
When we went, the elevator was under maintenance and not open, so we had to climb back up the same way we went down. The scenery was beautiful and the environment was nice, but we were drenched in sweat from the climb. Those with average physical fitness should be prepared. Also, it's extremely difficult to get a taxi after leaving the scenic area.
It was quite interesting, and walking through waterfalls of all sizes was quite unique. The Broken Bridge was quite picturesque. Besides the waterfalls, the cliffs were also beautiful. The climb up and down was a bit exhausting, so afterward, I went to a foot massage parlor...
The Maling River Canyon has beautiful scenery and is known as the most beautiful scar on earth! There is a direct bus from Xingyi, and there is a sightseeing elevator to the scenic area. The ticket price is 40 yuan, and the one-way price is 30 yuan. The canyon is deep and quiet, and the waterfall is cascading, which is very spectacular, especially the last ten thousand horses galloping, which is shocking. There are also staff to help take pictures, which is really friendly. The ticket seems to be 70 yuan, and I entered for free. It is a very cost-effective scenic spot. If you don’t take the elevator, it will be a bit painful, or it may be because I twisted my foot and felt inconvenient...
On the morning of March 3, 2025, I came to the Maling River Canyon Bridge and saw the magnificent majesty of the Maling River Grand Canyon from God's perspective. Since it is the dry season now and the waterfall flow is not large, I did not enter the scenic area and will come back in the flood season. The view from the Maling River Canyon Bridge on the old national highway is really spectacular and shocking. This perspective is absolutely amazing! Because it was too early and the sun had not yet reached the bottom of the valley, it was very dark in the canyon. It is estimated that when the sun shines on the bottom of the canyon at noon, the photos taken will be more colorful. It is free to watch on the old national highway bridge, and the car can be parked in the Maling River Canyon Geological Park parking lot at one end of the bridge. If you come by bus, get off at the Maling River Wetland Park Station and walk along the national highway for 1.6 kilometers, about 20 minutes.
The scenery is worth seeing. It is recommended to go there after June when the water volume is high. The big waterfall can reflect the magnificence of this canyon. The scenic area is divided into two entrances and exits: Xiaoqingshan and Dachaiwo. You can take the elevator up and down at Xiaoqingshankou, but you can only return by the original route. The road is narrow and will definitely be congested during the peak season. Dachaiwokou is the closest to the Wanma Benteng Waterfall, but the one-way stairs of more than 800 meters are really hard on the legs. It is recommended to enter and exit from Xiaoqingshankou and do not go back. It is only 500 to 600 meters from the Dachaiwo exit to the Xiaoqingshankou parking lot. It is recommended that the scenic area arrange a battery car shuttle service between the two entrances.
The Maling River Grand Canyon is located in Ceheng County, Qianxinan Buyi and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, Guizhou Province, China. It is a tourist destination that integrates canyon landforms, waterfalls, primeval forests, and ethnic customs. The canyon is 70 kilometers long, with towering peaks on both sides, steep cliffs, dense vegetation, and fresh and pleasant air. There are many attractions worth visiting in the canyon. The most famous one is the Maling River Grand Waterfall, which is 126 meters wide and more than 60 meters high. It is one of the highest waterfalls in Asia. The waterfall pours down from the cliff, the sound of water is deafening, and the mist is steaming, just like a fairyland. In addition, there are many natural landscapes such as waterfalls, deep pools, and secluded caves in the canyon, such as the Yinlian Waterfall, the Natural Bridge, and the Immortal Cave, which are fascinating. In addition to natural scenery, the Maling River Grand Canyon also integrates rich ethnic culture. There are many ethnic minority villages along the way, where tourists can appreciate the unique ethnic customs and folk art. Here, you can taste authentic ethnic food, watch spectacular ethnic song and dance performances, and feel the strong ethnic cultural atmosphere. In short, the Maling River Grand Canyon is a natural wonder full of mystery. Both the natural scenery and the ethnic culture are intoxicating. If you have the opportunity to go to Guizhou, you might as well visit the Maling River Grand Canyon. I believe the beautiful scenery here will leave a deep impression on you.
Malinghe Canyon in Xingyi, Guizhou, belongs to the karst landform, and is a deep cracked water seam in the orogeny. It is called the most beautiful scar on the earth. The canyon is74.8 kilometers long, the valley is50-150 meters wide, and the valley depth is120-280 meters. The valley bottom is 200 meters below the ground. Due to the role of "Qianquan Guiyu, the stream traces the source", it has bred a colorful canyon spectacle. Landscape characteristic waterfall group: Maling River Canyon has 56 waterfalls, of which there are more than 20 waterfalls within1.7 kilometers of Tianxing Gallery. After entering the scenic spot, walk down the stairs to the edge of the canyon, follow the instructions to go to Wanma Penteng Waterfall, which is also the largest waterfall. The scenery is very spectacular. If you are tired of climbing steps, there is also a paid elevator to sit.
