based on 7,892 reviewsXi'an City Wall is a landmark of this ancient city. The city walls that we see now were built in the early years of the Ming dynasty and they are now more than 600 years old. The walls were built on the foundations of the imperial city of the Tang Dynasty and they are formed together with a series of defensive installments such as moats and turrets. At present, Xi'an City Wall can be accessed by many city gates. Visitors can choose the nearest one to them. The South Gate is the visitor entrance of Xi'an City and is also the city gate with more tourists. Cycling on the ancient walls is a good experience. Riding on the wall overlooking the ancient capital of the thirteenth dynasty, you will have a feeling of travelling through time.

Show More ReviewsWe got there 10 minutes before it opened and were the first ones to enter! We rented bikes and biked around the entire wall! It took 2 hours but was so worth it because of how hot it was, the wind blowing on you while biking felt so good! This is the only way to do it in the summer! You can also rent tandem bikes. There are multiple bike stops along the way so you can always stop early and return your bike when you’re done if you don’t want to do the whole wall. My bike was super squeaky so I was able to switch my bike for another one at the next bike station. Because we got there so early, the wall was super empty for about half of the trip. But even when we started seeing more bikers and walkers, there were still plenty of space to bike because the wall is so wide!! Look at my pictures. We never encountered a situation where we had to bike slowly and be super cautious due to crowds. It was one of our favorite activities we did on our trip!
