武汉市中山大道始建于1906年，是老汉口最重要的商业交通干道。汉口中山大道从西南部的硚口路到东北部的黄浦路，贯穿整个汉口中心区，总长8445米。中间与武胜路、利济路、多福路、友谊路、民意路、三民路、民生路、江汉路、南京路、黄石路、大智路、兰陵路、黄兴路、车站路、蔡锷路、胜利街、一元路、三阳路等共48条能通行机动车辆的街道相交，东、南与沿河大道和沿江大道、西、北与京汉大道、解放大道和建设大道平行。2016年12月28日，历时2年建设，改造后的中山大道以全新面貌向社会开放。中山大道与武汉地铁6号线同步贯通，百年中山大道化身集商业文化、风情等于一体的景观大道，逐步向国际著名商业大道看齐。全国中山第一街，武汉中山大道4.7公里的改造范畴中，最亮眼的工程是江汉路。和中山大道年岁相当，百年江汉路上，西洋建筑林立，商业氛围浓郁，从来都是华中乃至全国的潮流风向标。2016年12月28日，随着武汉地铁6号线的正式开通，历经两年改造的中山大道以崭新的面貌重新开街。此次封闭改造中山大道4.7公里核心路段及周边，改造建筑70幢，美化建筑40幢，对沿线汉口总商会、法租界消防队旧址等38处老建筑的立面进行统一修缮，"修旧如旧"，尽量恢复其原貌。中山大道是武汉著名历史文化街，现存160幢历史建筑。2015年1月，中山大道入选第一批中国历史文化街区。如今，这些文物和古迹重新亮相，再现老汉口"十里长街"的繁华景象。
