The moment you step inside, you’re truly speechless😲—the Italian Renaissance-style dome is magnificent and golden, sunlight streaming through the stained glass dome, casting light on the mosaic decorations and Roman columns. ✨ Emotion and Awe · “The Stairway of Knowledge”: Each step of the spiral staircase is engraved with Latin proverbs, and above is a giant mural of the “Evolution of Civilization.” A phrase carved into the dome’s stone hits the soul: “Too low they build, who build beneath the stars.” · Vast Treasures: 168 million items! From ancient books in 470 languages to Gershwin’s manuscripts, and even fragments of the Gutenberg Bible and the Yongle Encyclopedia. The key is, this isn’t just for show—900 experts here truly provide research support for members of Congress! The brain behind a great nation’s rise beats here. ❤️ Warm Moments Early in the morning at the National Gallery of Art, I saw elementary students sitting on the floor listening to their teacher talk about paintings, humble housewives quietly sketching, and elderly people in wheelchairs pausing in front of oil paintings… All with free admission! Art knows no class, and the priceless legacy brought by zero-cost tickets is invaluable.

The building itself is beautiful with huge columns, detailed ceilings and a grand staircase. I spent more time looking at the architecture than the books. The main reading room looks like something out of a movie. There are exhibits too with old maps, documents, and even handwritten letters. It’s quiet, clean, and feels very grand. Definitely one of the nicer indoor spots to check out in D.C.
