Confucius' Ascending Place is located in the north of Tianmen Gate of Mount Tai. It is a four-pillar, three-door stone archway with ancient vines, elegant and dignified. It was built in the 39th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty (1560). There are two steles on both sides of the archway. The east one is the "Climbing High Must Be Self-guided" stele inscribed by Zhai Tao, the Tongzhi of Jinan Prefecture during the Jiajing period of the Ming Dynasty, and the west one is the "First Mountain" stele inscribed by Li Fuchu, the governor of Shandong Province. On the north side is the "Heavenly Steps" archway with two pillars and a single door. The five characters "Confucius' Ascending Place" are inscribed on the plaque of Confucius' Ascending Place, and the couplet on the pillar reads: "The Su Wang is unique and has been passed down through the ages, and the holy lord is far away to celebrate for ten thousand years."
Starting from the Red Gate, you will soon see this archway. This is a very old archway. It is said that the story of a harsh government as fierce as a tiger happened here. It is said that Confucius saw a woman crying for her dead husband here, and asked about it, which led to the story. Starting from here is the first step of the Long March. Climbing Mount Tai on foot is quite tiring.
The place where Confucius climbed is near the Hongmen entrance of Mount Tai. There are several archways and some ancient buildings here. There are also many stone tablets and stone carvings on both sides of the hiking trail. You can also feel the cultural influence during the climbing process.
Mount Tai was the place where the ancient emperors held the Fengshan ceremony, which means that the emperor's power was granted by God. Confucius, the teacher of all ages, would certainly climb Mount Tai. It is estimated that he was too old when he climbed the mountain and could only climb to the gate for one day.
