This church was built on the foundations of an even older building. In one of the buildings, you can see ancient Greek, Byzantine, Norman, Renaissance, and modern architecture side by side. You can easily see these features from the outside, or you can pay a nominal fee to look inside.
On the third day in Sicily, the sky finally seemed to clear up, and we were about to set off from Tarcania to Agrigento. We were very happy on the road, and thought, why not go to Syracuse to see the square where Monica Bellucci walked gracefully!
The Duomo di Siracusa was once the Temple of Athena. In the 7th century, the island was converted into a church after Christianization. From the inside, you can see the original Doge columns of the temple. It was originally a Byzantine building, and the colonnade on the outer wall of the temple was preserved. After being damaged by an earthquake, it was converted into a Baroque architectural style in the 18th century. The square in front of the church is the location of the beautiful legend of Sicily. Pretend to be Malene and walk through it.
The Syracuse Cathedral is a famous landmark building in Syracuse. It is particularly eye-catching under the blue sky and white clouds. The appearance is majestic, and the main gate pillars are finely carved and very imposing! The dome murals are also very beautiful.
It is worth mentioning that there was a wedding music audition in the Cathedral of Syracuse. It was the first time I encountered such a wedding music audition in a European church, and it felt very romantic. This small church is very interesting inside. Although it costs a few euros, it is worth it!
