Hall Grimms Cathedral, Iceland, this church is a very memorable church, from the appearance, very simple and elegant atmosphere. Listening to locals, this church has been built for almost half a century or so.
The Church of Halgrímur Pétursson, located in the center of Reykjavik, is the largest church in Iceland and has become the sixth tallest building in Iceland at74.5 meters high. The church is named after the famous Icelandic priest and poet Hallgrímur Pétursson. Designed by architect Gujón Samúelsson in 1937, the overall construction work began in 1945 and ended in 1986. As the most important landmark in the city, it can be seen in any corner of the city. The lift inside the church leads to the observation deck at the top, where you can enjoy the views of the entire Reykjavik mountains. There is also a huge organ inside the church, 15 meters high and weighing 25 tons. On the square in front of the church stands a statue of explorer Lef • Erikson, a gift from the United States to Iceland to commemorate the 1,000th anniversary of the founding of the Icelandic Parliament in 1930.
Hallgrims Cathedral is named after the famous Icelandic literary artist Hallgrims to commemorate his great contribution to Icelandic literature, also known as the Cathedral of Reykjavik, as the first landmark building in the city of Lei and even the whole of Iceland, and the tallest in Iceland. The building and no one of the cathedrals laid the foundation in 1940. After more than 20 years of construction, it was basically completed in the late 1960s. Several points: ① The building itself has obvious architectural characteristics and is very beautiful. ② The interior structure of the church is unique. There is a tower that can be climbed to the top and overlooked. City of the City
This church is amazing in its architecture and it is one of the sign that representing the city centre of Reykjavík
The church’s designer is Goodyon Samuelson, who was inspired by the columnar structure of basalt in Iceland and the steel pipe structure of the organ, which is a large visual sense no matter which angle it is shot. The church sci-fi shape reminds me of Asgard, the residence of Raytheon in Marvel, after all, Raytheon and Rocky are all from Nordic mythology.
