Keraton Surakarta Hadiningrat(Kasunanan Palace Surakarta Hadiningrat)

The Keraton Surakarta Hadiningrat, located in Central Java, Indonesia, is the palace of the Sultan of Yogyakarta. It incorporates traditional Javanese architecture and cultural features. Built between 1755 and 1756, the palace is situated in a banyan forest between two rivers, offering flood protection. The palace's layout follows Javanese philosophy, symbolizing humanity's origin and purpose. The road from the Krapyak Hunting House to the palace symbolizes the human journey from birth to adulthood. The main street of the old town forms a straight line from Mount Merapi to the palace, embodying the concept of "human origin and purpose."

In 1812, British troops captured Yogyakarta, and the palace was looted and burned. Most of the existing structures were built by the Sultan, who reigned from 1921 to 1939. The palace features cultural performances such as gamelan and wayang puppetry, showcasing the richness of Javanese culture.
