Shodo Shonin is known for the legend of the Shinkyo bridge, when he and 10 disciples were unable to cross the river and the river God Jinja-Daio threw them a bridge of two snakes and sedge across.

High Priest

The statue of Shodo Shonin is located near to Ringoji Temple Garden. During Nara era 766 years, this young priest with the age of 32 came to this region praying and healing illness for local people.

日光開山の祖です！！

日光山を開山した奈良時代から平安時代初期の僧である勝道上人。 輪王寺の入口にその銅像がありました。 日光と言えば日光東照宮、徳川家康、天海大僧正などが有名ですが勝道上人こそが最も初めにここに霊場を開いた偉大な方ですね。

日光開山の上人に見守られてお参りします。

輪王寺の境内入り口に立つ、日光開山の勝道上人の銅像です。 力強い姿で参拝者を見守っているようです。 駐車場の入り口でもあるので、車や観光バスに囲まれてる感じがします。 周囲は真っ赤に色づく紅葉が植えられていました。
