The design of the square was inspired by the architectural style of the Italian Renaissance. The square was built in the 18th century to commemorate the alliance between King Louis XV of France and Maria Theresa of Austria. It also celebrates an important treaty signed between Nancy and Vienna.

Intimate square
This intimate square has a lovely symmetry, a beautiful fountain by Cyfflé, a double row of linden trees, some of which are still the original trees planted in 1763, and it is very peaceful.
