based on 397 reviewsThe magical light show was truly breathtaking. From the historical evolution of Nanchang to the rise and fall of the Tengwang Pavilion, the narrative flowed seamlessly, and the actors' performances were quite good. It's definitely worth seeing.
Tengwang Pavilion stands by the Ganjiang River. It is famous for Wang Bo's "Tengwang Pavilion Preface". It is one of the "Three Famous Towers in Jiangnan" and a landmark of Nanchang. Although it has been destroyed and rebuilt many times, the current building is renovated in modern times, and it is difficult to feel the grandeur of the ancients' "the setting sun and the solitary wild goose fly together, and the autumn water and the sky are the same color", but it is still one of the must-see attractions in Nanchang. Going to Nanchang to see Tengwang Pavilion is always a very ceremonial thing.
The Attraction is mainly composed of the main pavilion of Tengwang Pavilion and the small gardens on the north and south sides. Climbing the pavilion to see the distant view is the main purpose of tourists coming here. From the outside, the main pavilion looks like a three-story building with a corridor. In fact, it has three dark floors and an equipment floor, plus two bases, a total of nine floors.
The first floor of the main pavilion is the preface hall. Right in front of the entrance is a white marble sculpture of "The Wind Complimentary Tengwang Pavilion Away". In front of the door is an archway with the words "The setting sun and the solitary wild goose fly together, and the autumn water and the sky are the same color". Walking in the hall, you can see many plaques and couplets written by famous artists, which makes people feel the extraordinary status of Tengwang Pavilion. The second floor is a dark floor, with portraits of more than 80 outstanding figures in Jiangxi from the Pre-Qin Dynasty to the end of the Ming Dynasty on the walls; there is a teahouse in the North Ear Hall on the third floor; the fourth floor is similar to the second floor, with murals reflecting the mountains and rivers of Jiangxi on the walls.
Continue up to the fifth floor, which is a good place for viewing. The essence of the entire Tengwang Pavilion is here. The "Tengwang Pavilion Preface" engraved on the copper plate on the wall of the central hall is written by Su Shi. Next to it is a statue of Wang Bo holding a wine glass, and in the center of the east hall is a panoramic model of the Tengwang Pavilion. Strolling along the corridor and overlooking the vast waters of the Ganjiang River, although the opposite bank has long been covered with high-rise buildings and the scenery is no longer the same as it used to be, I always feel a little emotional when I think of the scene where literati and scholars recited poems and wrote couplets here.
The next level up is an antique stage, with a golden plaque of "Tengwang Pavilion" written by Su Dongpo hanging under the eaves. If you have enough time, you can go to the South Garden and North Garden to stroll around. The antique garden environment is nice. If you want to save money, you can choose not to enter the Attraction. You can also see the panoramic view of Tengwang Pavilion from outside, but the angle for taking pictures is not so good.

I managed to get into the park in the last four minutes before closing time. I initially thought they wouldn't let us in, but the staff told us we had a few minutes left and to hurry! Haha, thankfully I didn't give up and made it. There weren't too many people in the evening, but the weather wasn't great; it rained the whole time. However, it didn't affect the visit to Tengwang Pavilion. The pavilion is magnificent and well worth the trip. The view of Nanchang at night from the pavilion is truly beautiful. I've always felt that a trip to Nanchang isn't complete without climbing Tengwang Pavilion. My first trip to Nanchang was to see the National Day flag-raising ceremony, and this is my second time here. It would be a shame not to climb Tengwang Pavilion again. This trip finally fulfilled my wish.
Got my ticket on Trip, and had to exchange for a physical ticket (they'll automatically assign a designated seat) at the Ticketing Office. Show is at 1945 hrs and one can enter from 1845 hrs. There's really no hurry to enter early since it's assigned seating. I was lucky to get a seat in Area 3, which is in the middle section, facing the Pavilion directly. At the start they had some audience engagement activities with giveaways and also sale of calligraphy artwork by 王刚亮, a famous calligrapher, who claims 王羲之 as his great-great-great-grand teacher. The actual performance brings the Pavilion's history to life, through projection, drama, dance and music including fire acrobatics, pyrotechnics and mobile sets. Glad that it's tiered seating for unblocked views. Overall it's an enjoyable 45 mins that I highly recommend.
Tengwang Pavilion is located on Yanjiang Road, Donghu District, Nanchang City, Jiangxi Province, close to the intersection of the east bank of Ganjiang River and the old course of Fuhe River. It was built in the fourth year of Tang Yonghui (653) by Li Yuanying, the Prince of Teng, the younger brother of Emperor Taizong of Tang, Li Shimin. It was once an important symbol of ancient Yuzhang civilization. It became famous all over the world because of the "Preface to Tengwang Pavilion" by Wang Bo, a poet in the early Tang Dynasty. It is as famous as Yueyang Tower and Yellow Crane Tower and is known as "the three famous towers in Jiangnan". The ticket is 50 yuan. If you don't go upstairs, you can enter from the south gate or north gate for free. The lights are turned on at 18:00 at night. The night view is very beautiful. It is recommended to watch the night view.
When you first arrive in Nanchang, the first place you must visit is Tengwang Pavilion. This long-renowned one of the three famous towers in Jiangnan was built in the Tang Dynasty and has survived through vicissitudes. Climbing up the main pavilion of Tengwang Pavilion, you can see that the three-story corridor building has a very majestic appearance. Passing through the prologue hall, you can see a white marble statue "The wind sends Tengwang Pavilion when the time comes", and in front of it is the famous arch couplet "The setting sun and the solitary wild goose fly together, and the autumn water and the sky are the same color". Walking into the hall, there are many plaques and couplets by famous artists hanging on the walls, all of which reveal the extraordinary status of Tengwang Pavilion. Climbing up to the second floor, you can see that the walls are covered with portraits of outstanding figures in Jiangxi from the pre-Qin Dynasty to the late Ming Dynasty, which is amazing. Coming to the North Ear Hall on the third floor, there is a small teahouse where tourists can rest and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. Finally, I came to the fifth floor, which is the best place to view the scenery. I saw Su Shi's "Preface to Tengwang Pavilion" engraved on the copper plate on the wall of the central hall, and there was a statue of Wang Bo holding a wine glass next to it. Climbing up and looking far, I saw the rolling waves of the Ganjiang River, and the scene of "the setting sun and the solitary wild geese flying together, and the autumn water and the sky being the same color" slowly unfolded before my eyes. I couldn't help but sigh that despite the vicissitudes of life, Tengwang Pavilion still retains the charm of Jiangnan classical architecture, which is very desirable. When I left, I reluctantly walked out of Tengwang Pavilion. This ancient building that has gone through vicissitudes and still stands here has undoubtedly become a landmark of Nanchang City, telling the world about its unique cultural heritage and historical charm.
