Peace Park

Nagasaki Peace Park is a memorial park built on the hills north of the center of the atomic bombing to pray for world peace. In the park, there are various facilities such as the Peace Prayer Statue and the Peace Fountain. Every year on August 9, the anniversary of the atomic bombing, a peace commemoration ceremony is held in the ceremony square in front of the prayer statue. The Peace Prayer Statue The Peace Prayer Statue is made of bronze with a height of 9.7 meters and a weight of 30 tons. It symbolizes the wish of Nagasaki citizens to pray for peace. The cyan statue's right hand pointed high to the sky represents the threat of the atomic bomb explosion, the left hand stretched horizontally represents peace, and the gently closed eyelids are to pray for those who died in the atomic bomb explosion, indicating that the world can enjoy peace without the threat of the atomic bomb. . It is said that many of the martyrs whose bodies were scorched by the nuclear explosion at the Peace Spring died groaning, "Please give me water, give me water". In order to pray for such a suffering soul and offer a clear spring, to pray for the abolition of nuclear weapons and the eternal peace of the world, this fountain of peace was built. The fountain symbolizes the wings of the dove and the crane. The Tower of Thousand Paper Cranes, which was built on October 6, 1982, has two towers, which stand on both sides of the Peace Prayer Statue. Many people who visit the park fold their prayers for peace into paper cranes and dedicate the paper cranes to the tower. Thousands of paper cranes expressed people's sincere wishes for world peace.
