In 1839, Lin Zexu, the governor of the two Guangxi provinces, was appointed minister of state, resolutely implementing opium ban measures, and destroying more than two million pounds of opium in Humen. Since Macau was a distribution center of opium at that time, Lin Zexu came to Australia to visit in July of the same year, and met with Portuguese officials at the pavilion on the front steps of the Tianhou Temple.
