Port Lockroy

The earliest British scientific research station was established at Port Lacroix on Port Lockroy and it was also the place where the British monitored ship routes during World War II.

There is a small post office on the island, but a series of facilities were abandoned after 1962. In 1996, a sum of money was invested to renovate this small post office at the southern end and reopen it. Visitors can buy some postcards in the post office, and the post office also provides stamping services. The abandoned base has become a museum for everyone to understand the status of life and research here.
