There was the former Kagoshima spinning office in the place where Joyful and Seven-Eleven are now, and there was a shipyard between the spinning office and the technical hall. Completed in 1851, the Satsuma domain used to build Western-style sailing vessels and steam engine ships.

It is a monument to the site of a shipyard on the Iso coast, a few minutes walk from Senganen. A shipyard was built to build European-style ships here. It is said that a sailing ship with a total length of ３ mast ４０ meters called "Iroba Maru" was completed by Japanese ship carpenters.
