It is one of the best preserved walled villages in the area. The walled village was built during the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty. A large house with a history of more than a century, located near Dayuan Station, still retains the characteristics of a century ago. Apart from the addition of air conditioning, nothing else has changed at all.
It is very convenient to get to Tsang Tai Uk in Sha Tin. It is about a 7-minute walk from Sha Tin Wai Station on the Tuen Ma Line. When you come here, you can experience a little tranquility in the busy city. It seems to take people back 100 years ago. The characteristic roof, high threshold, and the layout of the entire big house are all reasons worth visiting.
Zeng Dawu in Shatin is the residence of the Zeng family. Zeng Dawu is one of the typical Hakka walled villages. The houses in the Hakka walled villages are arranged in a wall, which looks like a fortress from a distance. Its biggest feature is that there is no passage along the central axis, but a group of halls are built, and the two sides are connected to the residential houses, which are called "horizontal houses". The layout of Zeng Dawu in Shatin is "three halls and four horizontal houses". There are towering watchtowers at the four corners of the walled house. In the past, only people of high status would adopt this design to show their style.
Take a double-decker bus back to Shatian at the airport and see a stop called Zeng Da House. Down, I found that it is only a few hundred meters away from the Hong Kong Museum of Culture and Chegong Temple, and can walk there by foot. During World War II, Zeng Dawu lived in 500 Chinese refugees. Today, there are still lookouts, gunholes and ear-shaped castles.
Walk along the river of Noew Town Plaza in Shatian, about 10-15 minutes. It's nothing special to see only a row of old and partly renovated houses. It's a bit unworthy if you look at it on a special trip.
