Man Yee Reservoir East Dam is the largest reservoir in Hong Kong and is listed as one of the important sites in the Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark. It is also the only place in Hong Kong that I would describe as "breathtaking." Man Yee Reservoir is located between Leung Shuen Wan Chau and the Sai Kung Peninsula. Along the way, there are signboards introducing top photo spots, including the magnificent hexagonal columnar rock formations, sea caves, and sea stacks. From the summit of Biao Jiao Jiao, you can also see the beautiful coastal scenery of Long Ke Wan. 🚍 Transportation: Take KMB bus 94 from Sai Kung Pier to Pak Tam Chung (on weekends and Hong Kong public holidays, there are direct KMB routes from Diamond Hill/Rainbow/Shatin/Tsuen Wan/Tai Po), then transfer to green minibus 9A directly to Man Yee Reservoir East Dam. ❗️ Please note that minibus 9A only operates on weekends and Hong Kong public holidays. On weekdays, you can only call a car from Sai Kung Pier or Pak Tam Chung to get there. ⛹🏻 Hiking route: Man Yee Reservoir East Dam (reservoir, east dam, hexagonal columns, anchor-shaped stone embankment) — Flower Hill viewpoint — Po Pin Chau — return the same way to East Dam.

The uniquely shaped sea caves were formed by wave erosion, with light and shadows intertwining inside, creating a mysterious atmosphere. At Man Yee Sea Caves, enjoy snorkeling, snail hunting, and kayaking to fully embrace the joyful moments on the sea.

By chance, I visited East Dam on the first Saturday after Christmas and New Year, and it turned out to be the perfect day of the year! Weather: Cool, dry, and sunny, allowing for breathtaking views under the blue sky. It was slightly cloudy, and even at noon, I didn't break a sweat! If it rained during this season, it would be like winning the lottery! Crowd: According to the minibus driver, every Saturday is packed with people, with hundreds lining up for the minibus, taking hours to get on! Taxis hike their prices, charging over a hundred dollars per person! The walk from Pak Tam Chung to East Dam takes 2.5-3 hours, with no scenery along the way, just uphill and downhill, a true endurance test! During long holidays, fewer people visit as they travel abroad. After the holidays, people need to rest, so it's less crowded! No need for a guide, just check the route online and follow the crowd. There are informative signs along the way. Enjoy the quirky and oddly-shaped rocks, the dam, and the stunning views of the sky and sea. With photo stops and breaks, it takes about two hours to reach the minibus. If you can sort out the transportation, this is a must-visit place for Hongkongers at least once in their lifetime! Take bus 96R from Diamond Hill Exit C2 to Pak Tam Chung, then transfer to minibus 9A to High Island Reservoir East Dam. The drop-off point is also where you will catch the return bus. There is a map available, and if you have limited stamina, you can choose to walk half the loop and then return. The weather is cooler in the afternoon. We went around 2 PM, and there weren't many people, so we could walk with the cows. There are many different geological landscapes worth seeing. Highly recommended for travelers who have visited Hong Kong many times but want to experience the leisurely island atmosphere.

These columns are neatly arranged on the sea surface, like giant fingers extending from the earth, complementing the blue sky and sea. - Sea cave landform: Long-term erosion by waves has formed sea caves. The collapse of the cave roof has created Po Pin Chau's unique landform, resembling a steep cliff split by a giant axe, standing on the sea, creating a strong visual impact. 📸Photo Spots: - High Island Reservoir East Dam: You can first take a panoramic photo of Po Pin Chau on the East Dam, as well as the distant sea and rolling mountains. The dam's architecture blends well with the surrounding natural landscape. - Po Pin Chau Viewing Platform: This is an excellent location for overlooking Po Pin Chau, the coastline, High Island Reservoir, and the rocky beach, offering a breathtaking view of the magnificent scenery. 👟Hiking Precautions: - Sun protection: There is basically no shade along the way, so be sure to take sun protection measures, such as bringing a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses. - Non-slip shoes: Some sections are quite dangerous, and the road surface has gravel, so it is recommended to wear hiking shoes with good non-slip properties. - Supplies: There are no supply points at the start or end of the hike, so bring enough water and dry food. 💕Experience: Coming to Po Pin Chau is like stepping into a secluded wonderland, far from the hustle and bustle of Hong Kong's urban areas.
