I mainly went to see Zao Wou-Ki's paintings. I was surprised at how complex his panel paintings were; the finished products were fantastic. The upstairs exhibition hall had many abstract art pieces and interactive exhibits, which were quite fun. You could even slip on slippers to appreciate the artist's work. I have to complain about the bus ride after leaving the M+ exhibition hall. For some reason, the W4 bus took us directly to the West Kowloon High-Speed Rail Station, which surprised all the passengers, as the app indicated it should go to Canton Road.

Danh Vo's Creative Scene: Isamu Noguchi's “Light”
Artist Danh Vo transformed the dormant space into a cozy social environment, presenting artist Isamu Noguchi's Akari lamp sculptures paired with tropical plants, inviting viewers to slow down and spend time.

Visited M+ in West Kowloon and it really does feel like a mix of museum, design lab, and cinema all in one. The building is gorgeous, with big windows and harbour views, and the galleries blend Hong Kong visual culture with global contemporary art, design, architecture and moving-image works in a way that feels really cohesive. It’s the kind of place where you can wander from immersive installations to graphic design and architecture models without getting bored, and the waterfront setting makes it worth a visit even if you’re not usually a museum person—set aside a few hours, because there’s a lot more here than just a quick photo stop.
The dream room is very similar to TeamLab! Overall, a lot of different galleries and all sorts of exhibition. Was a fun visit!
M+ Museum is the first international contemporary visual culture museum in Asia. Since its settlement in the center of the West Kowloon Cultural District in 2021, it has become a new cultural landmark in Hong Kong. From the perspective of architectural design, M+ has been designed by a world-renowned architectural firm Herzog & de Meuron. The building is covered with ceramic tiles, and its southern exterior wall is equipped with a multi-functional LED display system of 110 meters high and 66 meters wide M+ curtain wall. At 6 o'clock every night, the LED lights are on, and the flowing visual culture is reflected on the seafront of Victoria Harbour. The underground railway tunnel is the most distinctive display space for M+. The unique architectural structure provides a different venue for the art exhibition. The collection is rich and varied. Among them, the M+ Hick collection is a treasure trove, which is more than 1,500 Chinese contemporary art donated by Swiss collector and diplomat Uli Hick, and has been created for 40 years. Through these collections, you can deeply interpret the development of contemporary Chinese art, such as Fang Lixuan's oil painting "98.8.25", the elements of the skinhead and water, showing a sense of loneliness and powerlessness. There are also neon signs collected from all over Hong Kong, displayed in the exhibition hall of the Rehabilitation and Custody Center near the main entrance, the Niu Niu of "Sen Mei Restaurant" and the Rooster of "Chicken Notes Sparrow Play", which showcases Hong Kong's fireworks atmosphere and M+'s efforts in neon conservation. M+'s exhibition is wonderful. He has held hot theme exhibitions such as Caojian Yaisheng and Pei Xuming. In 2025, the exhibition "Guo Pei: Yixiang Tiankai" shows the Chinese fashion artist's high-level custom works combining international fashion and Chinese cultural heritage. The Hong Kong Jockey Club Presentation Series: Picasso and Asia Dialogue exhibition will feature over 60 rare Picasso works and more than 80 famous Asian works.
Hong Kong M+ Museum Review 1. High Exhibition Quality The exhibition quality of the M+ Museum is highly praised. Its collection and display of visual art, design and architecture, moving images and other works of the 20th and 21st centuries are eye-opening. In particular, the "M+ Sigg Collection" exhibition is divided into four theme areas, which deeply reflects the social thinking during China's rapid transformation in the 1990s. The works of famous artists are full of emotion. 2. Unique design and atmosphere The design of the museum itself is very modern, like a huge black square box, standing quietly on the shore of Victoria Harbour. The design of the interior space is also full of creativity, such as the "Big Steps" viewing hall, which can be transformed into a movie theater or accommodate hundreds of people for lectures. The variability of the space is amazing. The atmosphere of the entire museum is relaxed and comfortable, and it is a good place not to be missed by art lovers and general tourists. III. Recommended Exhibitions In addition to the "M+ Sigg Collection", the "Objects, Spaces, Interactions" exhibition has also received rave reviews. It has more than 500 exhibits, a smooth layout, and clear chapters and instructions, which gives people a deeper understanding of the history of graphic design, industrial design, and architectural design. In addition, the "Mountain Sounds and Water Responds" exhibition explores the extension of ink painting in the contemporary era, extending the concept of landscape to images, sounds, design, and architecture, giving people a new perspective on traditional landscape painting. In summary, the M+ Museum is a place worth exploring for everyone who likes contemporary art. Whether it is the quality of the exhibition, the design and atmosphere, or the specific content of the exhibition, it is impressive.
Reasons to Recommend: very spacious which is so unusual for HK, well designed, so many things to see that you can’t finish everything during one visit
M+ in Hong Kong is a shining pearl of modern art. It brings together the world's top modern art works. The exhibition is rich and diverse in content and avant-garde in design, bringing the audience an unprecedented art experience. It is not only a paradise for art lovers, but also an important window to understand the trend of contemporary art. It is worth in-depth discussion by art fans.
A veritable contemporary art museum with rich exhibits and both artistic levels and heights, it is suitable for thoughtful art lovers. The main exhibition hall is on the top floor, but unfortunately the exhibition halls are connected, so it is easy to repeat or miss the exhibition route. It is recommended to refer to the exhibition layout and route setting of the Pompidou Museum in France.
