The Art Museum of CUHK is located in a neat building on the north side of the Run Run Shaw Building in the main campus of CUHK in Shatin. As a teaching museum of the university, the Art Museum works closely with the Department of Art to provide in-depth research on museology and art history through physical practice, and is also open to the public during certain periods of time. The total number of collections in the Art Museum is over 13,000 pieces, mainly historical paintings and calligraphy and collection items donated by various parties after the museum was founded in 1971, dating from the Ming and Qing dynasties to the Song and Yuan dynasties.
This is a very low-key building. It was one of the earliest buildings built in those days. Its purpose was to promote Chinese culture. It includes some exhibits on the upper part, a public activity area on the first floor, and a lecture hall.
Up the high steps, on the left is the University library, and on the right is the Institute of Chinese Culture. As a subsidiary organ of the Institute of Chinese Culture, the Cultural Relics Museum is behind it. The exhibition of "Deer in Wonderland" is a wonderful sight of Chinese deer relics from Nanjing Museum.
It is located in the center of the Chinese University of Hong Kong, but it is far away from the MTR station and the CyberRed attraction, so few tourists will find it except students. The exterior of the building is very low-key, but the facilities inside are very complete. There are already two large exhibition halls on the first floor. The contents of the exhibition are not very rich, but they are all very deep interpretations of the culture of a certain area, showing the professionalism of the university.
The cultural relics in the Museum of Chinese University of Hong Kong are very meaningful and worth seeing. I caught an exhibition of ancient Chinese calligraphy and painting, which I thought was very good. The inscriptions and calligraphy were all authentic, and the exhibits were quite rich.
