Helsinki Central Station

Helsinki Central Station has a long history. In 1862, there was already a simple station. The current building was built in 1919. It is said that there were many Chinese workers among the construction workers at that time. Today, it is a transportation hub of Helsinki and a landmark building, with a daily passenger volume of about 200,000. In 2013, it was rated as one of the most beautiful railway stations in the world by the BBC.

In the evening, I arrived at Helsinki Central Station to take the overnight train to Rovaniemi and head to the Arctic Circle. The architecture of the train station is very distinctive. There is a large semicircular arch design in the center. The old brick walls make the station more vintage. European train stations are open-style. You can enter and exit the platform without ticket inspection and security check. There will be conductors to check tickets on the train. The platform display will show the train information, and you can find the platform of the corresponding train.

The airport is 18 kilometers away from the city centre and can take the airport bus. The fare is 6.3 Euros and the journey is 40 minutes. After landing, fortunately, people passed the entry point in less than 20 minutes. The airport bus waited outside the terminal building and got on the bus to buy tickets like most European countries. Bus terminal stops at Helsinki Central Railway Station. In Europe, as long as the city central railway station is the symbol of tourism, no matter arrival or departure, travel and accommodation are more convenient.

The Central Railway Station is a landmark building in Helsinki. It is a good place to check in and take photos, and it is in a relatively central location. However, the interior is relatively old (I forgot to take photos at the time). The signs are not very obvious. There is no formal or decent waiting hall, and there are very few seats, which is especially inconvenient for passengers traveling at night. Getting on and off the train depends entirely on your own, and there are basically no staff! There is a place to store luggage in the train station, which is large and convenient. There are many coffee shops and small shops for food, so you don’t have to worry about being hungry! The toilet is charged, and the card machine is very old. A passenger had diarrhea and forgot to bring cash. He swiped it several times but failed. It was really frustrating! In general, this train station is just a train station!

In line with the attitude of passing by and not missing out, take the opportunity to step into Helsinki. Central Railway Station, a post-modern architecture, is Finland's largest transportation hub and a landmark building of this ancient city. Helsinki Central Station is located in the center of Helsinki. The building is relatively retro and clean inside. There is no security check and no one checks tickets. I only remembered it when I got on the train. It is a good experience to take the VR Polar Train from this station to Rovaniemi overnight. The train is still very punctual, and the station platform is clear at a glance. Just look at the train number you want to take and get on the platform.
