For this self-guided trip to southern Spain, I chose to drive through Andalusia. The hotel itself features typical Andalusian architecture, with red and white walls, wooden windows, and balconies adorned with flags from various countries. Inside, it’s simple yet cozy, with friendly staff who are very accommodating to self-driving travelers (they provide parking information). It was the most convenient and historically atmospheric accommodation of my entire trip. 🌄 Early the next morning, I walked up the hill and encountered almost no crowds, enjoying this UNESCO World Heritage Site in the soft morning light. Stepping into the Alhambra felt like entering a rift in time, where the present and the past intertwine. 💫 In the Nasrid Palaces (Palacios Nazaríes), every inch of the walls seemed like intricately carved poetry. Sunlight filtered through the lattice windows, casting dreamlike reflections on the courtyard pools. Standing atop the ancient Alcazaba tower, I gazed out over the entire city of Granada. The red-tiled roofs and white walls of the city unfolded below, with mountains in the distance—a moment of breathtaking beauty I’ll never forget. In my mind, scenes from the Korean drama "Memories of the Alhambra" surfaced, where Hyun Bin wandered through this very palace. It was surreal to realize that the settings and storylines from the drama truly exist in this city. In fact it’s also the reason why it’s strongly recommended to buy the ticket to Alhambra complex at least a month in advance. Do buy from official website, coz third party website tend to sell it 3x the price. If you do run into the situation where tickets are all sold out, try your luck at 12am each night. That was how I got mine. Nasrid Palace has so many breathtaking features that I’d be sharing them in two posts: 1) major spatial structure; 2) decoration/ornamentations (in the next post). There are many patios and water elements used in the palace to enhance tranquility, for example, the Court of the Myrtles, with its long reflective pool framed by lush greenery and symmetrical arcades; or the Court of Lions, with a marble fountain supported by twelve sculpted lions. These courtyards were said to serve both functional and aesthetic purposes, cooling the ambience for the sultans and their guests. Other features of the Nasrid palaces include horseshoe arches, latticed windows, horseshoe arches, and muqarnas (stalactite-like carvings), which creates beautiful light and shadow in the buildings.

The name "Granada" means "pomegranate" in Spanish, so the pomegranate has become the emblem and symbol of Granada, and can be seen everywhere in the city. The name of the city may come from the pomegranate trees that grow everywhere in the city, or it may be another transliteration of the name Karnattah left by the Arabs. ⛺【Must-visit】： 1. The Alhambra is the palace of the Granada Kingdom established by the Moors in Spain in the Middle Ages. After the Moors were expelled from Spain in 1492, the building began to be abandoned. It was not until 1828 that long-term repairs and reconstruction began, and the original appearance was restored. The Alhambra is divided into five groups of buildings, the most essential part of which is the Nasrid Palace.
