Reservation and advance tix are required but the website is totally unusable, and unresponsive. You cannot get tickets and rangers at the gate wouldn’t allow entry. It’s hopeless.

The effort/reward is not great

3 hours of boring hiking , ever upwards through a dense forest for a 5 minute view that can be matched at countless roadside locations. Good exercise but that’s not really what we signed up for.
