Gauja National Park

Gauja National Park, located in Césis, Latvia, is the country's largest and oldest national park. The park is dominated by the ancient valley of the Gauja River, flanked by spectacular sandstone cliffs. These cliffs are composed of red, yellow, and gray sandstone formed 350 to 370 million years ago, with some reaching heights of 90 meters. The park also features various caves, such as the spacious Guttmann Cave, one of the largest in the Baltic region. In addition, the park boasts dense forests, primarily composed of pine and spruce, along with approximately 900 other plant species and several lakes. Hiking is the ideal way to explore the park. Numerous trails are available, suitable for hikers of all skill levels. Popular trails include the Césis Old Town Trail and the Sigulda Trail, offering stunning natural scenery and rich historical sites along the way.
