Former Residence of Mao Dun

In December 1974, Mao Dun moved into a two-story standard courtyard house in Houyuan Ensi Hutong, Beijing, where he spent six years of his later years. Mao Dun's former residence has an exhibition called "Mao Dun, the Great Revolutionary Writer", which shows Mao Dun's life from his youth until his death, mainly photos of him at different times, as well as some real objects such as books and stationery.

The Former Residence of Mao Dun in Beijing is located at No. 13 Houyuan'ensi Hutong, Dongcheng District, Beijing. The modern writer Mao Dun (Shen Yanbing) lived here from 1974 to 1981. It was officially opened to the public on March 27, 1985.

Mao Dun's former residence is located at No. 13 Houyuanensi Hutong in Nanluoguxiang. It is a quadrangle with two entrances. Mr. Mao Dun lived here from 1974 to 1981. It is now converted into an exhibition room, which records in detail Mr. Mao Dun's life experience and literary creation years with pictures and texts. It also stores some manuscripts, relics, and daily necessities. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday, and the admission is free. Metro Line 6 Nanluoguxiang Station.

☘️The last stop of the trip to the capital, revisiting the Eight Great Hutongs, to make up for all the former residences that were missed, so we came to Mao Dun's former residence. ☘️Walking into the courtyard, the first thing that caught my eye was the four golden characters "Mao Dun's Former Residence" written by Deng Yingchao on the screen wall. ☘️Under the grape trellis in the center of the courtyard, a small wooden swing swayed slowly, which was said to be installed for Mao Dun's granddaughter. ☘️The front yard was set up as an exhibition hall to introduce Mao Dun's life and works. There is a white marble bust of Mao Dun in front of the main house. ☘️The backyard is Mao Dun's study and bedroom. The furnishings in the house remain the same as they were after Mao Dun left - a few old furniture and a single bed. ☘️The surrounding rooms show Mr. Mao Dun's life and honors. Some flowers and plants are also planted in the yard, which is very down-to-earth.

On Houyuanensi Street, which is connected to Nanluoguxiang, there is a small free attraction that can be visited after registration. It is sparsely populated and is a two-entry courtyard. It was the residence of Mr. Mao Dun in his later years. It mainly has an exhibition hall on Mr. Mao Dun's life and some daily cultural relics on display. It is a good attraction to visit while visiting Nanluoguxiang.
