Went to the Melville in for dinner with my daughter and granddaughter. We had a 3 course meal.i had to send the steak back.it tasted funny.i was worried it maybe off.the waitress gave me the menu to pick something else so I picked the hunters chicken.it wasn't what I expected but it was ok.A frozen chicken burger, some tomato paste smeared over it, topped with melted cheese. No BBQ sauce.would have been perfect in a bread roll.this is not hunters chicken in my opinion.we had a shared starter.baked cambertburt with toast.it was good.my daughter had the macaroni.that was good.my granddaughter had the fish and chips.that was good.we all had banoffee pie for dessert.that wasn't great.we didn't really enjoy our meal enough to go back.A waste of hard earned money.

The main issue was the service, 2 of the party didn't have the carvery and had a long wait for our food. One took 30 minutes, I had to ask twice for my meal and i got it after waiting 50 minutes, but everyone at the table had finished eating their meals before mine arrived.. I had Hunters ham and Turkey ciabatta sandwich and roast potatoes, so it shouldn't have taken 50 minutes. It was good when it came. The waitress appeared to be working hard and she was friendly and trying her best. There was no cream for deserts ( kitchen had run out).

We’d booked a last minute afternoon tea which was utterly delicious! We’d put in a request for plain scones too and they were freshly cooked for us - service was great (Matthew made sure we had everything we needed, and got us extra tea etc.,)

We came here as a family as the place was recommended for a decent Scottish fish and chips. As I'm not a fan of fish, I opted for a deep fried pizza....only rhe Scottish could get away with that! This was a huge thing for me as I'm from the south of England! So it would have felt wrong to not have tried it! I'm so glad I did as it was amazing!!! I definitely recommend it! And the chips were proper chips, not these skinny things you get from McDonald's! If you visit Edinburgh I definitely recommend this place!!! Happy eating!!!
