A newly built Hui-style town at the foot of Mount Qiyun. The town integrates hotels, food, intangible cultural heritage and recreational projects. It is very good to stay for two days, stroll around the town and climb Mount Qiyun. The town itself is free, and the performances are also free. It takes 30 minutes by taxi from Huangshan North Station, and the fare is about 80 yuan.
The town is very quiet on weekdays, with fewer tourists. There are more people on Fridays and Saturdays, and there are Hengjiang Golden Dragon Dance and fireworks shows on Friday and Saturday nights. There are also various other performances on weekends, see P15 for details.
There is a Chinese Herbal Hall in the town, which uses Chinese medicine to make drinks, which is worth a try. There is also Jiaxi Nian Dumplings. The handmade dumplings made by the boss lady are large and full of fillings, and they are delicious. There are also Fanji Shaobing and Hot Jiuniang, which are very good.
There are three resort hotels in the town, Baiyue + Xiangfului + Yuehua, which belong to the same group. Among them, Baiyue and Xiangfului are very close to the Hengjiang Bamboo Raft Pier and the mountain cableway, while Yuehua is very close to the tourist center.
To watch the iron flower and fireworks show, you have to go to the tourist center. To watch the Hengjiang Golden Dragon Dance, you can go to the Hengjiang Bamboo Raft Wharf. It is recommended to go to Dengfeng Bridge and stand on the bridge to watch.
The intangible cultural heritage display includes iron painting, shadow play, paper cutting, etc. Among them, the shadow play touched me. There are four performances every afternoon, each half an hour. The one I went to had only four audiences, and the master and apprentice who performed it still completed the performance very seriously. Even after the performance, they invited us to the backstage to explain the production of shadow puppets and teach us how to operate them. The younger apprentice said that there are very few young people who like shadow puppets now, and even fewer who want to learn. We are very happy that you are interested. I felt so sad that I wanted to cry. As an intangible cultural heritage, it is of great significance to pass it on, and it needs more powerful publicity and support.
