I recently visited Xiamen. My hotel was right next to the Botanical Garden. I've been to Xiamen several times before and have visited most of the other attractions, so this time I decided to go to the Botanical Garden. It was a wonderful surprise! I recommend entering from the West Gate and taking the electric cart for 10 yuan. The garden is huge; you can't walk the whole way. It costs 10 yuan per person and allows you to get on and off six times. The cart passes five scenic areas, and the last stop returns you to the West Gate from the South Gate. Of the five areas, my favorite was the succulent plant area. It was the first time in my life I'd seen such enormous cacti. The last stop is the viewing platform overlooking the sea; the view is unbeatable. At the West Gate, you can also see the large camphor tree planted by Deng Xiaoping himself.

This time I brought my elderly parent (68 years old) and child (just 120cm tall), plus myself. The tickets were 200 yuan. There were no discounts for seniors, and we weren't allowed to get off the cable car midway. The staff's attitude was so-so. The only thing worth mentioning is the scenery; you see mountains first, then the sea. It's best to come on a sunny day. This ticket cost 160 yuan, which I think is a bit expensive. It's the most expensive ticket I've bought in Xiamen. They said it would take 40 minutes round trip, but I didn't think it was 40 minutes. If you're afraid of heights, you can get off on the other side. The staff there are quite nice. Getting off from there involves a walk through some undeveloped hills. My elderly parent is a bit afraid of heights, so we got off that way and found our own path to get out, then went to Baicheng Beach.

I've been to Wuyishan twice and highly recommend it. It truly lives up to its reputation as a World Heritage Site, a National Park of China, and one of China's Top Ten Famous Mountains. Although the scenic area is large, the shuttle buses are quite convenient, making the visit less tiring. We drove there and stayed in the city center, where the hotels were great value for money.

The scenic area is like a large public park, perfect for local residents to hike and exercise. The scenery is rather ordinary; the only notable features are the Laozi Rock statue at the foot of the mountain and the stupa containing the relics of Master Hongyi. My child was so excited about the whale specimen, and was immediately overwhelmed by its sheer size. He cried... a true example of "Lord Ye's love of dragons" (a Chinese idiom meaning someone who professes to love something but is actually afraid of it)... hahaha. The guide was incredibly gentle and patient, and I thoroughly enjoyed the explanations! A million thumbs up!

The filming location for "Big Fish & Begonia" features several distinctive large earthen buildings, perfect for taking photos. It's actually a village, quite pleasant to stroll around in, and many original inhabitants still live there, giving it a very natural feel.
