1. Basic Overview Huangheying Cave is a karst cave formed by karst landforms. It belongs to the underground river system of the upper reaches of the Getu River. It is about 2,006 meters long and runs in a north-south direction. The initial exploration of the main hall inside the cave revealed an area of over 10,000 square meters, capable of accommodating more than 30,000 people. With an average height of 40-50 meters, the space is open and the atmosphere is magnificent. 2. Landscape Features Colored Lava: The lava inside the cave displays a variety of colors, including red, orange, yellow, cyan, blue, and purple, creating a unique visual landscape. Stalactite wonders: The stalactites inside the cave come in various shapes, such as stalagmites, stone curtains, and stone flowers. Their unique shapes, some resembling cascading waterfalls and others resembling animal forms, are of great ornamental value. Skylight and underground river: There is a huge skylight in the cave ceiling, which is connected to the beginning of the underground river. Sunlight shines into the cave through the skylight, creating an effect of light and shadow. At the same time, the skylight is also an important channel connecting the underground river and the surface water.Ziyun · 23.9km from downtown

Huangguoshu Scenic Area

The Huangguoshu Scenic Area is located in Anshun, Guizhou, centered around the Huangguoshu Waterfall. Surrounded by deep gorges, dense vegetation, and dotted with limestone caves and stone forests, it is a typical karst landscape area. The waterfall's name originates from the locally abundant "Huangguoshu" (Ficus virens). Ming Dynasty traveler Xu Xiake visited and documented this site, contributing to its fame. The scenic area primarily consists of three main sections: the Great Waterfall, Tianxing Bridge, and Doupotang. Most travelers follow the sequence of Doupotang, Tianxing Bridge, and finally the Great Waterfall, saving the most spectacular view for last. The grand waterfall has a drop of nearly 80 m and a width of over 100 m. The Baishui River plunges from the cliff top into Rhinoceros Pool, creating a vast mist. Multiple viewing platforms around it allow visitors to experience its grandeur, wonder, steepness, and beauty from different angles—above, below, front, back, left, and right. A particularly unique experience lies behind the waterfall: a 100 m long Water Curtain Cave runs horizontally through its midsection, featuring cave windows and halls. Reaching through a window, one can touch the cascading water. The cave served as the filming location for the Water Curtain Cave in the 1986 TV series Journey to the West. Due to the heavy humidity inside, bringing a raincoat in advance is recommended. Tianxing Bridge is renowned for its harmonious blend of rocks, water, trees, and caves—where rocks rise from the water, caves hide within rocks, and trees stand beside caves. The stepping stones along the path are engraved with dates, allowing travelers to find their own "birthday stone." The attraction is divided into upper and lower sections. Many travelers turn back after completing the upper section, missing the Silver Chain Waterfall in the lower part—where water cascades like silver chains into a funnel-shaped pool, the highlight of Tianxing Bridge. The Doupotang waterfall is located approx. 1 km upstream from the grand waterfall. With a width of over 100 m at its crest, the water spreads out smoothly like a beaded curtain. During the high-water season, its deep roar earns it the nickname "roaring waterfall." The scene of the four pilgrims leading their horse across the river in the 1986 TV series Journey to the West was filmed here. In summer and fall, the waterfalls are full and powerful, while in winter and spring, the flow becomes gentler, offering different viewing experiences. Nearby, visitors can also enjoy local snacks like sticky rice, love tofu, and Anshun spring rolls.Zhenning · 49.2km from Ziyun

From the foot of the mountain to the entrance of the Ziyun Cave in Guizhou, there are more than 360 stone steps of two to three meters wide, winding upwards, with three stone steps for rest and cooling off on the way. The rebuilt Ziyun Cave has four floors: the first floor is the God of Wealth Hall, the second floor is the Guanyin Hall, the third floor is the Great Buddha Hall, and the fourth floor is the Jade Emperor Hall. The magma dripping in the cave has returned to its original state, and the cave is more magnificent than before. The slope from the foot of the mountain to the cave entrance has been replanted with trees. After more than ten years of careful management, it has grown into a forest. Huajiang Canyon Bridge Tourism-Integrated Service Area

The Huajiang Canyon Bridge stands 625 m vertically above the river surface, serving as a benchmark cultural tourism landmark where Guizhou's super project deeply integrates with karst natural wonders. Leveraging the high bridge resources, the service area has created a mountain tourism destination combining high-altitude immersive sightseeing, bridge engineering education, and karst geological exploration. From a 625-meter cloud perspective, it unlocks the dual awe of China's bridge construction marvels and the canyon's hidden wonders. 1. Cloud ladder·fully transparent sightseeing elevator in bridge tower: Located in the south bridge tower (Zhenfeng side), it is a rare fully transparent sightseeing elevator built inside a high bridge tower in China. The elevator climbs steadily at a speed of 4 m per second, taking only 24 seconds to reach the second floor of the bridge tower approx. 625 m above the river. The fully transparent glass cabin provides an unobstructed vertical view. During the ascent, the lush vegetation at the valley bottom, the winding river in the canyon, the steel trusses of the bridge deck, and the towering structure at the tower top unfold layer by layer before your eyes. With a 100-meter abyss beneath your feet, the entire journey immerses you in the visual impact of soaring through the air. It is not only a popular "cloud ladder" check-in spot in the service area but also a step-by-step high-altitude experience. 2. Sky spine·box girder built-in sightseeing hall: A high-altitude view corridor built within the main box girder of the bridge, standing 625 m above the river surface, creating a unique sightseeing space inside the bridge. Walking through the "steel spine" of the bridge, one side features the intricate and robust steel truss structure, allowing close observation of suspension bridge components and appreciation of large-scale engineering wisdom. The other side offers panoramic windows to overlook the majestic Huajiang Grand Canyon, with rolling karst peaks and the river winding like an emerald ribbon through the mountains. The corridor also features bridge science exhibition points, providing an easy-to-understand guide on the construction process and technological breakthroughs of Guizhou's high bridges, combining sightseeing with educational insights. 3. Cloud walk·high-altitude glass hall: Located in the middle section of the box girder corridor, 625 m above the river surface, it is constructed with high-strength special laminated glass. Standing on the transparent glass floor, you can directly overlook the vast canyon abyss, with the Beipanjiang River valley and karst peak forest in full view. When clouds drift in, it feels like floating in a sea of clouds. The hall features a check-in observation deck, cultural and creative exhibition area, and high bridge post office, combining sightseeing, photography, and leisure experiences. It is the most iconic viral photo spot in the entire attraction. 4. Super project·Bridge wonder: The Huajiang Canyon Bridge itself is the core attraction of the service area, and it is also a prominent steel-truss suspension bridge with a remarkable span in China's mountainous regions. The two main towers stand on both sides of the canyon, with a km main span soaring across the sky. The two main cables bear a tensile force of tens of thousands of tons, showcasing the grandeur of a major national project. Whether viewed from afar or up close, one can feel the awe-inspiring transformation of "a natural chasm into a thoroughfare." It is a highly representative landmark in Guizhou's "Bridge Museum" and a recommended destination for engineering and photography enthusiasts.Zhenfeng · 51.2km from Ziyun

The Stone Forest Scenic Area is located in Shilin County, Kunming, and is one of the key attractions in the city. This scenic area showcases typical karst landforms, featuring stone peaks, pinnacles, sinkholes, and underground rivers. The towering rock formations take on various shapes—sword-like, pagoda-like, mushroom-like, and more—creating a breathtaking and fantastical landscape. The Stone Forest Scenic Area is divided into several widely spaced sections, with the Greater and Lesser Stone Forest attractions at its core. The Naigu Stone Forest is located approx. 12 km north of the main attractions, while the Dadie Waterfall scenic area sits approx. 29 km southwest. The Changhu Lake area is positioned 26 km southeast of the main site. When visitors refer to touring the Stone Forest, they typically mean exploring the Greater and Lesser Stone Forest sections. The Greater and Lesser Shilin are located in the same area. After purchasing tickets at the main entrance and walking along the path for 20 minutes, you'll find the smaller and more gently sloped Lesser Shilin Scenic Area on your left. Amidst the dense cluster of peaks stands the famous Ashima Stone, where the majestic karst formations resemble a graceful Yi ethnic maiden named Ashima, seemingly waving to visitors—a favorite photo spot for travelers. Beyond the striking Ashima, the Lesser Shilin area features other captivating views like the Steed and Pillar Supporting the Sky, each with unique shapes. This is where your imagination is put to the test. If you find your imagination lacking, we recommend hiring a guide who can offer fresh perspectives on these remarkable formations. As you drive leisurely along the highway, you'll encounter a series of remarkable rock formations lining the roadside—the Tang Monk Stone, Stone Prison, Phoenix Combing Its Wings, and Lingzhi Mushroom Rock—each vividly lifelike and exquisitely crafted by nature's artistry, presenting their unique postures to showcase Earth's wondrous creations. Strolling along the pathway, you'll unexpectedly arrive at the Great Stone Forest Scenic Area. After marveling at wonders like "Two Birds Sharing Food," "Rhinoceros Gazing at the Moon," "Lotus Peak," "Shilin Grand View," and "Stone Screen," you might feel slightly fatigued. Take a peaceful break at Lion Pavilion while admiring the inverted peaks reflected in Lion Pool across the way. After prolonged exposure to these karst formations, visual fatigue may set in—making it the perfect moment to shift perspectives. Board a cruise on Shilin Lake, where mountain vistas and water scenery converge into one breathtaking panorama, dissolving all stress and worries. If you prefer not to walk, electric carts driven by Yi ethnic women shuttle between attractions and stop upon request. You can still marvel at the wonders of the Stone Forest Scenic Area, and some friendly drivers may even share interesting local anecdotes along the way. Naigu Stone Forest, also known as New Stone Forest or Mozhai Stone Forest, is located 13 km north of the Stone Forest Scenic Area. It features a landscape composed of stone formations, Baiyun Lake, Shifeng Mountain, and Yougu Xianpu Waterfall. Compared to the Stone Forest Scenic Area, this site offers a distinct style. The towering gray-black stone pillars here are densely packed, resembling castles, towers, and mushrooms. The rugged, primitive rock formations surge skyward like waves, creating a majestic atmosphere. Walking through these dark peaks feels like stepping into a primeval world.China · Shilin

Getu River A world-class karst cave wonderland, featuring giant tunnels, underground rivers, divine light displays, and the Miao ethnic group's intangible cultural heritage of spider-like rock climbing… Unfortunately, the weather wasn't good today, so we couldn't see the divine light. The shuttle bus costs 10 yuan; the journey is actually short, only a few minutes, and the service is excellent.

It's definitely worth seeing! The view of the Doupotang Waterfall at night, combined with the Journey to the West themed story and lights, is breathtaking. There are also NPCs to interact with along the way, making you feel like the monsters from Journey to the West are right beside you – it's so much fun! Thank you to the cast, crew, and staff!

It's worth a visit, though quite tiring; we probably took the easiest route. From the visitor center, take the sightseeing bus to the scenic area entrance, then walk one kilometer along the river to Longmen Waterfall. Take the elevator up, then walk 800 meters to Tianchi for the boat tour. Take the boat into the Dragon Palace twice, but don't get off at the second entrance (from there you have to walk an hour and a half to Xuantang). Return by boat to Tianchi, then walk to the scenic area exit, then another kilometer through Buyi Town to the sightseeing bus station. Take the sightseeing bus back to the visitor center. The whole trip takes about three and a half hours.

First, let’s get the location correct, this place is not in Guizhou. Guizhou is a province about 200 miles or so north-north-west! The place is near the city of Hezhou, maybe that’s what whoever wrote the title meant.Ziuyun cavern was visited in the afternoon on day two of our three-day bus trip from Guangzhou to a few places in the south of Guangxi province. The previous day we’d been to Wuzhou and seen the Qilou Building (Trip.com reviewed) and then taken a bus up Wuzhou Mt. Baiyun Park (Trip.com reviewed). In the morning we already been to Baili Shuimo Park to see the mountains, and then to a persimmon market for a little retail therapy buying the fruit that the area was famous for. Before coach disgorged us at the entrance of the site, our tour guide announced that we could either walk the 20 minutes to the cavern or take the electric bus. Of course, being fit and reasonably healthy we took the bus! Chinese 20-minute estimates are always optimistic. The entrance to the cavern is indicated by a sign to the Metaverse. No idea why, but I suppose they’re trying to be trendy! At the entrance we were told we’d have to wait for the walkers to arrive, so we could all go through together. A couple of busloads of grumbling visitors didn’t appeal to the kids on the door, so the lights and sounds were turned on and we were soon ushered through the door leading to the bowels of the earth.Well, there’s lots of lights, noises, steps both up and down, paths, pools, and of course illuminated stalactites to keep you entertained. You can even have your photo taken which can be collected at the exit. My wife reckoned her Honor phone was just as good as their camera, so no business from us.The walk through the cavern and stops for gawping took about 40 minutes. Inside the cavern it must have been 10C warmer than outside and we were glad to get out into the cool evening air. The sun had gone down while we were inside.

We arrived at Huajiang Bridge in the afternoon. Although it was during the holiday, there was no congestion in either direction, and traffic flowed smoothly. There were queues to enter and exit parking lots 1 and 2. There's a bridge viewing platform at Yundu, and the Guanlan Restaurant offers excellent views. There's a water curtain light show at 8:30 PM and a drone show at 8:45 PM. The karst waterfall on the bridge is creative; the high bridge and cascading waterfall, illuminated day and night, create a beautiful scene.

Leaving Getu River, crossing mountains and ridges to reach Zhongdong Miao Village, you can probably understand why the Miao people at that time settled the village in this cave located halfway up the mountain. It took about an hour to find Zhongdong after crossing a large field full of corn and climbing halfway up the mountain. Fortunately, the scenery along the way was pleasant and I didn't feel tired even after walking around. Zhongdong is actually not that big, but it is very high. One by one, the houses made of bamboo strips go deep into the cave. Although these houses look "light", some of them are actually two-story and the rooms are fully functional. There is also a school in Zhongdong. When we arrived at Zhongdong, we didn't see too many residents. The reason is naturally that many young people have left here long ago, and we don't know whether there will still be people living here in a few years.
