Dajue Mountain

Dajue Mountain, originating from Buddhism's concept of the Buddha, refers to enlightened practitioners; it is a world Buddhist natural and cultural park. Located in Zixi County, Fuzhou City, the mountain is divided into eastern and western sections. The eastern section features a 300,000-acre virgin forest as its core attraction, while the western section is a comprehensive tourist area centered on religious culture and canyon rafting. The Dajuezhe Peak is the mountain's iconic view, resembling the enlightened Sakyamuni Buddha. Amidst the layered peaks and towering mountains, the natural landscape of Guanyin (Avalokitesvara) appears serene and effortless, a heavenly gift concealing nature's endless mysteries. Between elevations of 300m and 1,200m, a sightseeing shuttle, monorail, cableway, tunnels, and walking paths form a 30km circular route. Visitors can tour the attraction via this loop, connecting planned mountaintop temples and cliffside views along the way. Hidden within are peaks, lakes, pavilions, caves, terraces, celestial lakes, sky roads, and bridges.TianyanTianquan, TianmenTiantaishan, TianjieThe celestial realm forms a wondrous "Nine Heavens" view; beneath the "Nine Heavens" at Dajue MountainLotus PeakShenguifengBijiafengEight towering peaks—Cuiping Peak, Jiangjun Peak, Wenqu Peak, Dieluo Peak, Jingang Peak, and three others—rise abruptly from the ground, forming the "Eight Earthly Realms" view. Immersed in the "Nine Heavens and Eight Earthly Realms, Hundred Views," one can take in the breathtaking panorama and suddenly realize why this is truly the "Sacred Mountain and Holy Waters, the Paradise of the Enlightened." Ascending Dajue Mountain, you'll arrive at the Dajue Rock Temple nestled in a high-altitude cave, where the chanting of Buddhist scriptures lingers in the air and incense smoke swirls. The temple was first built in the first year of the Xianhe era of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (326 AD), boasting a history of 1,700 years. It was later frequented by eminent monks of the Tang Dynasty—Lingyin Temple, HangzhouThe Great Enlightenment Zen Master sought seclusion from worldly affairs and once traveled here, giving the Great Enlightenment Rock Temple its name. The Great Enlightenment Rock is a massive granite cave, with a lower front and higher rear, measuring 69m deep, 99m wide, and 19m high—a truly rare geological formation. The temple consists of seven parts, including the Great Buddha Hall, Ksitigarbha Hall, Guanyin Hall, and Sangharama Hall.It evolved into a comprehensive temple integrating the three major religions. The "Eight Immortals Cave" and "Reading Cliff" on the western side are particularly marvelous. Located deep in mountain valleys, Jiangxi's Dajue Mountain Town has witnessed the footsteps of countless devout pilgrims over the centuries and inspired generations of literati. Today, the town is built soaring above the ground, with architecture as its form and culture as its soul, blending one river, three streets, six alleys, and nine mansions to recreate the grandeur of the Song Dynasty. It has become a sanctuary for meditation, relaxation, and vacation, continuing its millennium-old legacy of prosperity. The TV drama "The Legend of the Heavenly Match: Sequel" was filmed here.Zixi · 10.4km from downtown

Mount Longhu

4.5/5
7.9k reviews
Mount Longhu Scenic Area is located on the outskirts of Yingtan City and is the birthplace of Taoism. Its founder Zhang Daoling once cultivated and attained enlightenment here. The appearance of Mount Longhu Scenic Area is similar to Wuyishan, both featuring typical Danxia landforms and a World Natural Heritage site. Riding a bamboo raft on the Luxi River to enjoy the mountain views on both banks is fantastic, and the cliff tombs of the ancient Yue people hanging coffins and coffin climbing performances are also very eye-catching highlights. The main attractions are distributed along both banks of the Luxi River from north to south, in order Elephant Trunk Mountain - Xianshui Rock - Mosquito Village - Mount Longhu - Zhengyi Temple - Shangqing Ancient Town (Shangqing Palace). If you want to stay tight, you can visit the main attractions in one day, or split it into two days for a detailed tour. The scenic area operates on a flat ticket system (each attraction can be visited once). Usually, you buy a full ticket, which includes sightseeing bus and rafting (or boat) fees, which is quite cost-effective. The sightseeing bus stops at a wave and can be used multiple times. If you need to stay here, accommodations are available in Yingtan city as well as near the tourist center, Xianshuiyan, Shangqing Ancient Town, and Jiuquzhou, but usually the base is near the visitor center. When visiting Mount Longhu Scenic Area, you can travel by sightseeing bus, walking, or rafting. For a day of sightseeing at the main attractions, you can take a sightseeing bus from the visitor center to Mount Longhu - Zhengyi Temple, then transfer to the farthest Shangqing Ancient Town (about 10 kilometers), and from there, travel backward to the starting point. Most houses in the ancient town are newly built. You can first visit Changqing Ward, then stroll along Shangqing Ancient Street. The town's highlights include the Celestial Master's Mansion and Shangqing Palace. The Celestial Master's Mansion is the ancestral home of the Zhengyi Sect, and most of the existing wooden buildings are antiques from the Qing Dynasty. Shangqing Palace is still a few kilometers away, with fewer tourists. If you don't want to wait for sightseeing buses, you can take a taxi ride there. Have lunch in the ancient town, then take a bus back to Mount Longhu - Zhengyi Temple. The temple here is slightly smaller than the Celestial Master's Mansion and was rebuilt in recent decades, so it's relatively new. It's worth a quick look. From Mount Longhu to Zhengyi View, walk another 5 minutes to the starting point of the rafting, and from here to the finish point at Xianshuiyan, the whole journey takes about 50 minutes. Along the way, you can enjoy mountain views on both banks. The boatmen will tell you legends about the Supreme Lord Laozi and the Queen Mother of the West, but this will cost extra. The famous "Ten Must-Haves" Danxia Stone Scenery can be seen in about three places in this section. The cliff tombs and hanging coffins at Xianshuiyan are full of mystery. The scenic area regularly stages a "coffin lifting" performance every day (10:00-16:00, every 2 hours for reference), demonstrating the process of securing coffins into caves on the cliff. Visitors watch from the Peach Blossom Islet shore, the final stop of Xianshuiyan on Mount Longhu, while the performance takes place on the opposite cliff, making it quite thrilling. Because "lifting the coffin" sounds like "promotion," some people come here to seek good luck. Bamboo rafts are parked on the water, and about 10 minutes before the coffin-raising performance, there is a "cormorant fishing" show showcasing the fishing and hunting lifestyle of the ancient Yue people. After watching the performance, take the free ferry to the opposite bank, then follow the signs to Fairy Rock. This rock, known as the "Mother Earth," is a famous spot in the Mount Longhu Scenic Area, vivid and lifelike. Not far from the Xianshui Rock terminal at Mount Longhu—Peach Blossom Islet—is the south gate of Elephant Trunk Hill. Halfway up the mountain, there is a smooth boardwalk where you can admire the mountain's silhouette from different angles as you walk. This Elephant Trunk Hill is much more rugged than the one in Guilin, with a straight trunk that looks very lifelike. It takes about one hour to walk along the boardwalk to the East Gate. The last attraction is the mosquito-free village, which can be reached by sightseeing bus. The scenery of Wuwen Village itself is average; most people come here to fill their stomachs. The village has two famous dishes: Celestial Master Tofu and Celestial Master Bagua Banquet, both vegetarian. It can be used for dinner. If you arrive at Mount Longhu Scenic Area in the afternoon, it's recommended to first visit Shangqing Ancient Town, then go to Mount Longhu - Zhengyi early the next morning to enjoy the rafting (there's almost no need to queue at this time), then go ashore to visit Elephant Trunk Hill to watch the coffin-raising performance and Fairy Rock. Afterwards, walk along the Luxi River to Wuwen Village for lunch. Nearby attractions like the Ancient Yue Folk Village are also worth seeing, allowing you to slowly enjoy the scenery of Mount Longhu Scenic Area.Guixi · 41.4km from Zixi

Dajueyan Temple is the soul of the Dajue Mountain scenic area and is a temple that integrates Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism. Dajueyan Temple features three main halls: the Mahavira Hall, the Ksitigarbha Hall, and the Guanyin Hall. The Mahavira Hall is located in the center of the cave. The cave itself is magnificent, and within this high-mountain cavern, Dajueyan Temple is filled with the sounds of chanting and the scent of incense. Dajueyan Temple was first built in the first year of the Xianhe era of the Eastern Jin Dynasty, with a history spanning 1,700 years. It is said that the high monk of the Tang Dynasty, Zen Master Dajue from Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou, traveled here to escape the mundane world to meditate and worship, and Dajueyan Temple was named after him. Legend has it that a Lion King from the celestial realm descended to Dajue Mountain, where he committed all kinds of evil, harming the three realms and making life miserable for the people. To subdue the Lion King, the Buddha ordered all the Bodhisattvas and immortals to descend to Dajue Mountain to capture him together. However, the Lion King possessed extraordinary magical powers, and none of the Buddhas or immortals could stop him. Later, the Buddha himself descended to Dajue Mountain. While the Lion King was asleep, the Buddha ordered the Eight Immortals to press down on him. They cast spells and placed the South Heaven Gate and the Marriage Pavilion on top of him, and the Heavenly Street on his tail. When the Lion King woke up and roared, the Buddha subdued him with a single breath of celestial energy. Since then, a massive, rare granite cave has formed in Dajue Mountain, 69m deep, 99m wide, and 19m high. It resembles a giant lion with its mouth wide open, which is why it is called Shiziyan, and later it was named Dajueyan Temple.Zixi · 8.6km from downtown

Mount Huangshan Scenic Area

Mount Huangshan Scenic Area is located in Tangkou Town, Huangshan District, Huangshan City. Since ancient times, Mount Huangshan has been one of China's most renowned mountains. Its peculiar pines, strange rocks, sea of clouds, and hot springs are known as the "Four Wonders" of Mount Huangshan. In addition to these, rime, snowscapes, and sunrises are also views that visitors will not miss. There is an ancient saying: "Having visited the Five Great Mountains, one need not look at any other mountains; having visited Mount Huangshan, one need not look at the Five Great Mountains." The attraction is divided into the south gate, west gate, and north gate. The vast majority of visitors enter and exit through the south gate, which has two entrances and exits—front mountain and back mountain—both close to Tangkou Town at the foot of the mountain. The town has also become a transfer hub for visiting Huangshan, and many visitors arrive here in advance to stay overnight. From Tangkou Town to the attraction entrance, you need to take the Huangshan New National Line shuttle bus, which stops at the front mountain gate (Ciguang Pavilion), the back mountain gate (Yungu Temple), and the Huangshan-Hot Spring attraction. Visiting the attraction mainly involves two routes up the mountain, the front mountain and the back mountain, both leading to one of the main peaks, Bright Summit. On the other side of Bright Summit, there is also a loop route — the West Sea Grand Canyon. Front mountain The front mountain refers to the hiking route starting from Ciguang Pavilion to Yuping Tower at the summit (accessible directly by the Yuping Cable Car), as well as the Mount Huangshan Scenic Area - Lotus Peak and Tiandu Peak areas at the summit. The scenery of the front mountain is grand and majestic, making it very suitable for enjoying panoramic views from the cable car. Both the highest peak, Mount Huangshan Scenic Area - Lotus Peak, and the other main peak, Tiandu Peak, are located here (the two peaks open alternately). There are also classic attractions such as the Guest-Greeting Pine, Jiulong Peak - Carp Back, Hundred-Step Ladder, One-Line Sky, and Tianhai. Back mountain The back mountain refers to the hiking route from Yungu Temple to Bai'e Ridge (accessible directly by the Mount Huangshan Yungu Cableway), as well as the mountaintop areas behind Bai'e Ridge such as Shixin Peak, Mount Huangshan Scenic Area - Shizi Peak, and West Sea Grand Canyon - Paiyun Pavilion. The scenery of the back mountain consists mostly of exquisite mountain views, suitable for enjoying on foot along the way. Flying Stone and Monkey Watching the Sea are both located here. West sea grand canyon West sea grand canyon officially opened in 2000. The canyon is deep and the scenery is very magnificent, and it is known as the true gathering place of Huangshan's essential scenery. West sea grand canyon can be entered from West Sea Grand Canyon - Paiyun Pavilion in the summit area of the back mountain, and after looping around inside the canyon, you return to the main peak area of Tianhai. It takes about 2 hours to walk down from West Sea Grand Canyon - Paiyun Pavilion to the bottom of the canyon, and then you can take a cable car to Tianhai. Route recommendations The standard way to visit Huangshan is a two-day tour, with routes divided into ascending via the front mountain and descending via the back mountain (front mountain - West Sea Grand Canyon - back mountain) or ascending via the back mountain and descending via the front mountain (back mountain - West Sea Grand Canyon - front mountain). Ascending via the front mountain and descending via the back mountain is suitable for taking the cable car up and walking down, which is both relaxing and allows you to enjoy the exquisite scenery of the latter half. However, since the essential route of the West Sea Grand Canyon runs from West Sea Grand Canyon - Paiyun Pavilion to Tianhai, you will have to backtrack along a section of the trail. It is possible to visit Huangshan in just one day, but the itinerary will be tight. It is recommended to ascend via the rear mountain and descend via the front mountain, taking the cable car both ways, and to either skip climbing the main peaks of the front mountain (Mount Huangshan Scenic Area - Lotus Peak / Tiandu Peak) or skip the West Sea Grand Canyon. Stay selection There are several accommodation options at the summit, mainly concentrated in areas such as Guangming Peak Tianhai, West Sea Grand Canyon-Paiyun Pavilion, Bai'e Ridge, and North Sea. Guangming Peak Tianhai is a great spot for watching the sunrise, and it is also suitable for storing luggage while exploring the West Sea Grand Canyon. Bai'e Ridge is the upper station of the Huangshan Yungu Cableway on the rear mountain; if you typically enter the attraction from the rear mountain in the afternoon, staying here is quite convenient.China · Huangshan City

Wangxian Valley

Wangxian Valley is located at the northern foot of Lingshan Mountain, hidden among mountain streams and gorges. It was formerly an abandoned granite quarry and, after years of ecological restoration, has been built into the valley town it is today. The attraction is structured around the Jiuniu Stream Gorge, where streams flow through the valley and waterfalls cascade in layers; the Sandie Waterfall and Sankou Pot are among its most recognizable natural views. In summer, visitors can also experience gorge rafting that winds through the ancient town. The cliffside building complex on Baihe Cliff is the attraction's signature view. On the nearly 100-meter-high cliff face, cantilevered guest rooms, plank walkways, and viewing platforms climb upward in a zigzag pattern, looking up from the valley floor like pavilions in the sky. After nightfall, the cliff lights come on one after another, and the entire valley resembles a painted scroll of lights; standing on Lanyue Bridge and gazing at the full panorama of Baihe Cliff is a classic photo spot here. The Yanpu Old Street in the valley restores the appearance of traditional dwellings in northeastern Jiangxi, with rammed earth walls, bluestone slab paths, and horse-head walls interwoven throughout. Workshop Street is lined with traditional handicraft workshops for brown sugar, brewing, papermaking, cloth dyeing, and more, where you can watch ancient production methods on site; Mingchan Alley gathers intangible cultural heritage crafts such as bamboo weaving and woodwork. Bawei Street offers a dazzling array of Jiangxi-style snacks such as dengzhan guo and taro dumplings. When visiting, it is recommended to enter the attraction in the afternoon so that you can clearly see the gorge landforms in daylight without missing the spectacular lighting after nightfall. The entire route requires walking and climbing stairs, so comfortable, slip-resistant shoes are advisable.China · Shangrao

It's great, but you need to allow enough time for the bullet train. The best arrangement is to plan all activities in the morning, take the cable car up the mountain, then the bullet train, followed by the high-speed rail, have lunch in Dajue Town, and go rafting in the afternoon. One day is just right. The local bread is really delicious; I thought I bought too much when I bought it, but then I realized I bought too little! 😀

It's definitely worth visiting, but there were so many people today. We waited an hour for the cliffside bullet train, and the whole journey was by train. It's especially friendly to the elderly; the queue railings are long benches where you can sit and wait, which is very considerate. I hope they promote it more so more people know about this wonderful place, Dajue Mountain, where there are many fun activities. I definitely want to go again next time.

Went there for rafting, the scenery was nice, the experience was great, it's worth recommending, interesting and fun, it's quite far from Fuzhou city, about 80 or 90 kilometers, walk a few steps after ticket check, take the sightseeing bus directly, it's quite fast, change a trip in the middle, walk through an ancient town, and then take the sightseeing bus again. We arrived at a little after one o'clock, and there were a lot of people at the rafting ticket gate, waiting for about an hour? The queue is divided into four waves, don't worry, there are fans blowing, it's okay, it's not very hot. Then the shoes, you can wear cloth shoes, sandals, you can't wear slippers and go barefoot on the boat, it doesn't matter if you don't wear them, there are rentals and sales (the place to rent shoes is 5 yuan at the place where you are ready to get on the boat after queuing, and there are shoes for sale before and during the queue for 15 yuan and 20 yuan), bags can be stored for 15 yuan and transported to the end of the rafting. The rafting process is very exciting, more than an hour, the stream water is a little cold, you can bring your own water gun or buy it when you get there, which is used for water fights during the rafting process (I didn’t buy it, and I was splashed with water...) It is recommended to change clothes after rafting. There is a bathhouse and free ginger tea, which is very convenient and worth a visit!

Overall, it was quite worthwhile. The unique landscape and the public transportation within the scenic area were excellent. Although we took a cable car and a cliffside train to get up the mountain, there was still a long hike to go, which was quite tiring. Dajueyan Temple is located within the Dajueshan 5A Scenic Area in Zixi County, Fuzhou, Jiangxi Province. Nestled in a natural cave at an altitude of approximately 1118 meters on the western slope of Lianhua Mountain in the Wuyi Mountains, it is an ancient temple with a history of about 1700 years, a religious site where the three religions (Confucianism, Taoism, and Buddhism) coexist. It was first built in the first year of the Xianhe era of the Eastern Jin Dynasty (326 AD) and was initially named Shiziyan Temple. During the Zhenguan era of the Tang Dynasty, Zen Master Dajue of Lingyin Temple in Hangzhou traveled here to propagate Buddhism, and the temple was renamed Dajueyan Temple. The cave of Dajueyan Temple is a natural granite chamber, lower in the front and higher in the back. Reference data: approximately 69 meters deep, 99 meters wide, and 19 meters high (slight variations exist in different records). It can accommodate thousands of people, with a covered rock ceiling and sheer cliffs, creating a unique and imposing atmosphere.

Five stars! The night view of Wangxian Valley truly lives up to its reputation; the cliffside pavilions are dazzlingly lit, resembling a fairyland. I recommend entering in the afternoon. Enjoy the canyon and streams during the day, and then experience the daytime and nighttime views at dusk when the lights come on – perfect for taking stunning photos. The park has excellent facilities, and online ticketing and ID card entry are very convenient. Definitely worth a special trip!
