Things to do in Zhongwei

The Tengger Desert is one of the famous scenic spots in Zhongwei, Ningxia. It is very close to Shapotou and has beautiful and charming scenery. It is very suitable for family travel. Riding a camel in the desert feels very comfortable and is many times better than the experience of gravel roads. The thrilling desert assault car and the fun of sliding down the sand on a plastic board from the slope are also very enjoyable. Overall, the desert play experience is still good. Pay attention to sun protection and safety, stay with your children all the time, capture the beautiful and happy moments, and embrace nature.

The saying "the higher you stand, the farther you see" is indeed true. Before ascending the desert flying platform, the staff explained some precautions. Then everyone boarded the rotating platform, which slowly rose. The rotation itself was barely noticeable, but the distant scenery was truly beautiful…

Head to Shapotou and witness firsthand the desert embracing the Yellow River. The sand dunes stretch endlessly, the sunset is vast, and you can experience the romantic beauty of the frontier with sandboarding and camel riding – truly appreciating the beauty of "the long river and the setting sun."

It's not bad. It's my second time in Shapotou. This time I chose the Jinsha Lake Scenic Area at the door. It's smaller than Shapotou, but the experience projects are enough for children to play. It's not bad and worth a visit. However, if you come for the first time, you can go to experience the Shapotou 5A Scenic Area, where there are more things to play and sheepskin rafts.

"Yellow River Homestay" is separated from Shapotou Scenic Area by only the Yellow River. It has restored the century-old ancient village "Dawan Village". Zhongwei Highway 66, located in Shapotou District, Zhongwei City, Ningxia, is on the road from the city to the ancient villages of Nanchangtan or Beichangtan. Because this rural road passes through undulating valleys and runs along the Yellow River, in some places the straight road extends to the distance and you can't see the end at a glance. It is known as Zhongwei's Highway 66! The endless road is full of wildness and excitement. I think of the scene of highway racing in Fast and Furious. Feeling free and feeling powerful, different from the abstract mood in the city, it is very refreshing!

My first experience on a sheepskin raft was very safe. The raftmen at Shapotou sing folk songs, and listening to them on the Yellow River is a unique experience! Special praise to raftmen numbered 118, 119, and 120 for their lively atmosphere. The whole trip took about twenty minutes, and the current wasn't fast. The sheepskin rafts had a sealant of sesame oil inside to prevent leaks; one of these rafts can last about three years now, and can even be patched up – a truly ingenious use of resources back then!
