Maling River Canyon

4.6/5
4.8k reviews
Maling River is located in Xingyi City, a strategic point for Yunnan, Guangxi and Guizhou. It is 334 kilometers northeast of Guiyang and 321 kilometers west of Kunming. It originates from Baiguoling in the Wumeng Mountains. The upper reaches are called Qingshui River, and the middle reaches are called Maling River because of Mabie Dazhai and Malingzhai on both sides. Maling River has a slightly sad title - "the beautiful scar on the earth", which vividly describes the magnificence and steepness of Maling River. Maling River is more than 70 kilometers long, cutting a narrow and deep ground canyon in the plain. This structure is extremely rare in the world and is known as "the first seam in the world". The majestic and beautiful Maliang River Canyon National Scenic Spot is known as the "River of Thousands of Waterfalls" and "The Crack in the Sky and Earth". In 1993, the Maliang River "Five Rings Rafting Company" was established, pioneering rafting in the southwest. In April 1998, the International Canoe Rafting Competition was successfully held, and it became the Guizhou Province Canoeing Training Base and the National Olympic Whitewater Sports Base.Xingyi · 40.8km from Xingren

Fangmaping has 28,490 mu of alpine grassland, including 21,000 mu of natural grassland and 7,490 mu of natural forest. The grassland is located in the sloping zone where the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau transitions to the low mountains and hills of Guangxi, and has a unique landform. The beautiful mountains and waters here are gifts from nature. The green plains with endless vitality and life colors are inlaid with beautiful scenery everywhere, allowing people to appreciate the artistic conception of poetry and the splendor of paintings. The indescribable spiritual energy makes the mountains and rivers of Xingren beautiful and magical. In the alternation of seasons and the extension of time and space, it shows immortal interest and charm. People have mysterious stories passed down from generation to generation for this mysterious plateau. There is the ancient camp site of Manai Tun on Fangmaping, which is a key cultural relic protection unit in Guizhou Province. At the northern end of the grassland on the top of Fangmaping, there is a mountaintop flat land with an area of more than 90 mu. Looking around, it looks like a dragon head slightly raised on Maping. The Ma Nai Barracks site is high and steep, surrounded by cliffs. In 1600, Long Jizhao, the chief of Ma Naiying, led his people to build stone walls and set up camps here, making it an anti-Qing base camp with excellent offensive and defensive capabilities and thousands of troops. Visitors strolling in the ruins of Ma Nai Barracks can see springs that never dry up, overgrown grass, piles of stones, and vaguely discernible roads, which give them a sense of desolation. It's as if they were walking into the tragic history of more than 300 years ago, full of blood, rain, and swords. What's amazing is that there is a natural lake on Fangmaping - Ximatang. Under the blue sky, the lake is dark blue, like a mirror inlaid on the grassland on the top of the mountain.Xingren · 13.5km from downtown

Huajiang Canyon Bridge Tourism-Integrated Service Area

The Huajiang Canyon Bridge stands 625 m vertically above the river surface, serving as a benchmark cultural tourism landmark where Guizhou's super project deeply integrates with karst natural wonders. Leveraging the high bridge resources, the service area has created a mountain tourism destination combining high-altitude immersive sightseeing, bridge engineering education, and karst geological exploration. From a 625-meter cloud perspective, it unlocks the dual awe of China's bridge construction marvels and the canyon's hidden wonders. 1. Cloud ladder·fully transparent sightseeing elevator in bridge tower: Located in the south bridge tower (Zhenfeng side), it is a rare fully transparent sightseeing elevator built inside a high bridge tower in China. The elevator climbs steadily at a speed of 4 m per second, taking only 24 seconds to reach the second floor of the bridge tower approx. 625 m above the river. The fully transparent glass cabin provides an unobstructed vertical view. During the ascent, the lush vegetation at the valley bottom, the winding river in the canyon, the steel trusses of the bridge deck, and the towering structure at the tower top unfold layer by layer before your eyes. With a 100-meter abyss beneath your feet, the entire journey immerses you in the visual impact of soaring through the air. It is not only a popular "cloud ladder" check-in spot in the service area but also a step-by-step high-altitude experience. 2. Sky spine·box girder built-in sightseeing hall: A high-altitude view corridor built within the main box girder of the bridge, standing 625 m above the river surface, creating a unique sightseeing space inside the bridge. Walking through the "steel spine" of the bridge, one side features the intricate and robust steel truss structure, allowing close observation of suspension bridge components and appreciation of large-scale engineering wisdom. The other side offers panoramic windows to overlook the majestic Huajiang Grand Canyon, with rolling karst peaks and the river winding like an emerald ribbon through the mountains. The corridor also features bridge science exhibition points, providing an easy-to-understand guide on the construction process and technological breakthroughs of Guizhou's high bridges, combining sightseeing with educational insights. 3. Cloud walk·high-altitude glass hall: Located in the middle section of the box girder corridor, 625 m above the river surface, it is constructed with high-strength special laminated glass. Standing on the transparent glass floor, you can directly overlook the vast canyon abyss, with the Beipanjiang River valley and karst peak forest in full view. When clouds drift in, it feels like floating in a sea of clouds. The hall features a check-in observation deck, cultural and creative exhibition area, and high bridge post office, combining sightseeing, photography, and leisure experiences. It is the most iconic viral photo spot in the entire attraction. 4. Super project·Bridge wonder: The Huajiang Canyon Bridge itself is the core attraction of the service area, and it is also a prominent steel-truss suspension bridge with a remarkable span in China's mountainous regions. The two main towers stand on both sides of the canyon, with a km main span soaring across the sky. The two main cables bear a tensile force of tens of thousands of tons, showcasing the grandeur of a major national project. Whether viewed from afar or up close, one can feel the awe-inspiring transformation of "a natural chasm into a thoroughfare." It is a highly representative landmark in Guizhou's "Bridge Museum" and a recommended destination for engineering and photography enthusiasts.Zhenfeng · 48.8km from Xingren

Huangguoshu Scenic Area

4.6/5
40.1k reviews
The Huangguoshu Scenic Area is located in Anshun, Guizhou, centered around the Huangguoshu Waterfall. Surrounded by deep gorges, dense vegetation, and dotted with limestone caves and stone forests, it is a typical karst landscape area. The waterfall's name originates from the locally abundant "Huangguoshu" (Ficus virens). Ming Dynasty traveler Xu Xiake visited and documented this site, contributing to its fame. The scenic area primarily consists of three main sections: the Great Waterfall, Tianxing Bridge, and Doupotang. Most travelers follow the sequence of Doupotang, Tianxing Bridge, and finally the Great Waterfall, saving the most spectacular view for last. The grand waterfall has a drop of nearly 80 m and a width of over 100 m. The Baishui River plunges from the cliff top into Rhinoceros Pool, creating a vast mist. Multiple viewing platforms around it allow visitors to experience its grandeur, wonder, steepness, and beauty from different angles—above, below, front, back, left, and right. A particularly unique experience lies behind the waterfall: a 100 m long Water Curtain Cave runs horizontally through its midsection, featuring cave windows and halls. Reaching through a window, one can touch the cascading water. The cave served as the filming location for the Water Curtain Cave in the 1986 TV series Journey to the West. Due to the heavy humidity inside, bringing a raincoat in advance is recommended. Tianxing Bridge is renowned for its harmonious blend of rocks, water, trees, and caves—where rocks rise from the water, caves hide within rocks, and trees stand beside caves. The stepping stones along the path are engraved with dates, allowing travelers to find their own "birthday stone." The attraction is divided into upper and lower sections. Many travelers turn back after completing the upper section, missing the Silver Chain Waterfall in the lower part—where water cascades like silver chains into a funnel-shaped pool, the highlight of Tianxing Bridge. The Doupotang waterfall is located approx. 1 km upstream from the grand waterfall. With a width of over 100 m at its crest, the water spreads out smoothly like a beaded curtain. During the high-water season, its deep roar earns it the nickname "roaring waterfall." The scene of the four pilgrims leading their horse across the river in the 1986 TV series Journey to the West was filmed here. In summer and fall, the waterfalls are full and powerful, while in winter and spring, the flow becomes gentler, offering different viewing experiences. Nearby, visitors can also enjoy local snacks like sticky rice, love tofu, and Anshun spring rolls.Zhenning · 78.3km from Xingren

Stone Forest Scenic Area

The Stone Forest Scenic Area is located in Shilin County, Kunming, and is one of the key attractions in the city. This scenic area showcases typical karst landforms, featuring stone peaks, pinnacles, sinkholes, and underground rivers. The towering rock formations take on various shapes—sword-like, pagoda-like, mushroom-like, and more—creating a breathtaking and fantastical landscape. The Stone Forest Scenic Area is divided into several widely spaced sections, with the Greater and Lesser Stone Forest attractions at its core. The Naigu Stone Forest is located approx. 12 km north of the main attractions, while the Dadie Waterfall scenic area sits approx. 29 km southwest. The Changhu Lake area is positioned 26 km southeast of the main site. When visitors refer to touring the Stone Forest, they typically mean exploring the Greater and Lesser Stone Forest sections. The Greater and Lesser Shilin are located in the same area. After purchasing tickets at the main entrance and walking along the path for 20 minutes, you'll find the smaller and more gently sloped Lesser Shilin Scenic Area on your left. Amidst the dense cluster of peaks stands the famous Ashima Stone, where the majestic karst formations resemble a graceful Yi ethnic maiden named Ashima, seemingly waving to visitors—a favorite photo spot for travelers. Beyond the striking Ashima, the Lesser Shilin area features other captivating views like the Steed and Pillar Supporting the Sky, each with unique shapes. This is where your imagination is put to the test. If you find your imagination lacking, we recommend hiring a guide who can offer fresh perspectives on these remarkable formations. As you drive leisurely along the highway, you'll encounter a series of remarkable rock formations lining the roadside—the Tang Monk Stone, Stone Prison, Phoenix Combing Its Wings, and Lingzhi Mushroom Rock—each vividly lifelike and exquisitely crafted by nature's artistry, presenting their unique postures to showcase Earth's wondrous creations. Strolling along the pathway, you'll unexpectedly arrive at the Great Stone Forest Scenic Area. After marveling at wonders like "Two Birds Sharing Food," "Rhinoceros Gazing at the Moon," "Lotus Peak," "Shilin Grand View," and "Stone Screen," you might feel slightly fatigued. Take a peaceful break at Lion Pavilion while admiring the inverted peaks reflected in Lion Pool across the way. After prolonged exposure to these karst formations, visual fatigue may set in—making it the perfect moment to shift perspectives. Board a cruise on Shilin Lake, where mountain vistas and water scenery converge into one breathtaking panorama, dissolving all stress and worries. If you prefer not to walk, electric carts driven by Yi ethnic women shuttle between attractions and stop upon request. You can still marvel at the wonders of the Stone Forest Scenic Area, and some friendly drivers may even share interesting local anecdotes along the way. Naigu Stone Forest, also known as New Stone Forest or Mozhai Stone Forest, is located 13 km north of the Stone Forest Scenic Area. It features a landscape composed of stone formations, Baiyun Lake, Shifeng Mountain, and Yougu Xianpu Waterfall. Compared to the Stone Forest Scenic Area, this site offers a distinct style. The towering gray-black stone pillars here are densely packed, resembling castles, towers, and mushrooms. The rugged, primitive rock formations surge skyward like waves, creating a majestic atmosphere. Walking through these dark peaks feels like stepping into a primeval world.China · Shilin

We arrived at Huajiang Bridge in the afternoon. Although it was during the holiday, there was no congestion in either direction, and traffic flowed smoothly. There were queues to enter and exit parking lots 1 and 2. There's a bridge viewing platform at Yundu, and the Guanlan Restaurant offers excellent views. There's a water curtain light show at 8:30 PM and a drone show at 8:45 PM. The karst waterfall on the bridge is creative; the high bridge and cascading waterfall, illuminated day and night, create a beautiful scene.

It's definitely worth seeing! The view of the Doupotang Waterfall at night, combined with the Journey to the West themed story and lights, is breathtaking. There are also NPCs to interact with along the way, making you feel like the monsters from Journey to the West are right beside you – it's so much fun! Thank you to the cast, crew, and staff!

Location: Haigeng Park/No. 16 Hubin Road ↔ Xishan Longmen (West Mountain Dragon Gate), not near the old street, you have to go to the Dianchi Lake area. Experience: Crossing the lake + climbing the mountain, about 20 minutes one way, views of Dianchi Lake, Sleeping Beauty Mountain, and city scenery, great for taking photos. Ticket Price: One way about 59-60 RMB, round trip about 98-100 RMB. Advantages: Easy for lazy people to climb West Mountain, no climbing required, unique views; seagulls in winter. Disadvantages: Stops during strong winds/thunderstorms; long queues during peak season; separate ticket/walking required for Longmen after climbing the mountain; don't confuse with the "Xishan Longmen Cableway". Conclusion: First time in Kunming, taking the Dianchi-Xishan route → worth it; if just exploring the old street → not worth a special trip.

During summer vacation, I went there with my friends and their kids. We arrived early, so we found a terrace for dinner with a view of the water. There was a performance on the water in the evening. The natural scenery of mountains and water combined with the man-made architecture created a great atmosphere 👍 The only downside was that eating outdoors meant that mosquitoes were unavoidable at night, especially in a place like Guizhou with a relatively good ecological environment.
