Old TownLocated in the historic center of the capital of Slovakia, it is an urban district that blends medieval charm with Baroque architectural features. It has well preserved its traditional medieval street layout, with winding cobblestone streets, colorful building facades, and quaint streetscapes that together create a rich historical atmosphere. The houses along the streets are mostly decorated in the Baroque style, and their exquisite window frames, facade carvings, and unique shop signs add much pleasure to a stroll. The south side of the Old Town is adjacent to the Danube River, and the riverside area offers a great vantage point for viewing the city scenery. Looking out from the riverbank or the castle, you can see a sea of red roofs, church spires, and old neighborhoods intertwined, forming a distinctive city skyline.Slovakia · Bratislava I

The Roland Fountain, also known as the Maximiliánova fontána, was built during the period of Maximilian II. It is located in the central square of the old city and is one of the monuments in Bratislava. The Baroque sculpture fountain not only has Better ornamental, at that time, there were also the use of fire fighting equipment. The fountain was designed by the sculptor A.Luttinger, in the image of a knight in heavy armor. There will be lights around the fountain in the evening, so the viewing effect at night is better. Although the fountain has undergone several renovations, its popularity is still high, and it remains one of the most popular meeting spots for downtown residents. This sculptural fountain is also considered to be a more important geographical indication, and you must take a photo with it before you have been to Bratislava.Slovakia · Bratislava I

St. Martin's Cathedral is located on the western edge of the old town. It is a larger cathedral in Bratislava and a very old church. The church was built in the 14th century and is a classic Gothic church. Its famous feature - the towering spire is also reflected in the building of St. Martin's Cathedral, about 16 meters high. There are three corridors of equal size in the church, which provide a wide space and bright lights for those who come to worship. The interior structure and decoration of the church are also worth seeing. The arched dome gives a solemn feeling, and Lots of beautiful sculptures. St. Martin's Cathedral is famous for the coronation of 11 monarchs (10 kings and Queen Maria Theresia) and 8 queens here, and the pomp of the time can still be reminiscent of the church decoration.Slovakia · Bratislava I

St. Elisabeth Church is a Catholic church built in 1907. At that time, it was possible to build such a special building thanks to its designer Edmund Lechner, whose bold and innovative ideas made this church a representative of the new art in the Hungarian Catholic Church. Because of the extensive use of blue in the exterior and interior, it is affectionately called the blue church. In terms of popular vocabulary, the church is very small and fresh. The sky blue building body, plus the lace interior, even the church. The chairs inside are also blue and will definitely be your camera darling!Slovakia · Bratislava I

The Slovak Presidential Palace, also known as the Glasurkovic Palace, is a Rococo palace building located in the capital Bratislava. It has a total of two floors and a very elegant white appearance. There is also a French garden behind the Presidential Palace. The greening is very good and the environment is very fresh. A row of Slovakian flags stood at the door, standing against the wind. The spherical sculpture fountain in front of the door is also very interesting. It is also one of the landmarks of Slovakia. Don't miss the opportunity to take a photo with it! Historical background From 1939 to 1945, it was the seat of the Presidential Palace of Slovakia. It was also used by the Slovak government during the communist era. In the early 1990s, the palace was rebuilt. Beginning on September 30, 1996, it became the Presidential Palace of Slovakia again.Slovakia · Bratislava I
Marian Column

Marian Column

2
The Marian Column on Františkánske Square is a Baroque architectural monument located in the area in front of the main entrance to the Church of the Holy Savior on Františkánske Square in Bratislava . The column belongs to a group of architectural monuments of this type, which were built by the Habsburgs in several places of the monarchy as a reminder of their victories over Protestant opponents. Iconographically, the column is a type of Marian column, which, especially in the period from the mid-17th century, became very popular in Catholic Europe. Its obvious model was the Marian column from 1638, which still adorns Marienplatz (Marienplatz) in Munich, Germany . History and architecture of the monument The year of construction and the name of the builder of the column are documented by the inscription on its base - it was built by the Emperor and King of Hungary Leopold I in 1675 and was intended to remind passers-by forever of Leopold's victory in suppressing the rebellion of Hungarian Protestant rebels in 1670-1671, who were trying to install their own monarch on the Hungarian throne. After the conspiracy was suppressed, severe repressions occurred, during which the main rebels were executed or sold into slavery on galleys. In 1671, one of the leading representatives of the resistance, the Moravian Protestant preacher Mikuláš Drábik, was executed on the spot where the column stands today. From an architectural point of view, the Marian column is a relatively simple structure. It consists of a cylindrical composite column erected on a block base standing on a raised, four-stepped pedestal. At the top of the column, which ends with a Corinthian capital, is a richly profiled stone statue of the Immaculate Virgin Mary with the baby Jesus in her arms. The author of the statue is unknown. Adoration of the Host - relief of a pair of angels carrying a monstrance on the front surface of the column base The pedestal of the column is interesting from a historical and iconographic point of view. The back of the pedestal bears the relief coat of arms of the Kingdom of Hungary , the inscriptions on the two sides proclaim the name of the builder and the purpose of the building ( ...for the glory of the Most Holy Savior, the Virgin Mary and for the atonement of the desecration of the Eucharist... ). On the side facing the Main Square is the text: "LEOPOLDVS // ROMANORVM IMPERATOR // SEMPER AVGVSTVS // HVNGARIAE REX APOSTOLICUS // ARCHIDVX AVSTRIAE // MEMOR // ACCEPTARVM GRATEIRVM // INTELLIGENS // MVLTIPLICEM OBLIGATIONEM // PROVIDENS // REGNO SIBI SVIS, // SENATV POPVLOQVE HVNGARIAE // OMNIQVE CHRISTIANITATI // LAVDETVR SS. SACRAMENTVM // ET SINE MACVLA CONCEPTA // VIRGO MARIA." . On the side facing the Franciscan Church there is an inscription (in some places more difficult to read): "GLORIAE SALVATORIS // IESV CHRISTI DOMINI NOSTRI // IN SACRA HOSTIA // NVPER SACRILEGE TRACTATAE // IN AEVVM REPARANDE // HONORI MARIAE VIRGINIS // SINE MACVLA CONCEPTAE // PATRONAE REGNI HVNGARIAE // MAGNAE DOMINAE NOSTRE // SEMPER MAGIS AVGENDO // POST TVRCAM PVLSVM // SEDITIONES COMPESCITAS // PROCVRATAM TRANQVILITATEM // ISTVD TROPHAEVM POSVIT // ANNO SALVTIS MDCLXXV // MENSE MAY DIE 23 // +" . The front of the pedestal bears a relief of angels adoring the Eucharist in the monstrance. The iconography has a strong counter-reformation content - emphasizing the victory of Catholicism. Even the placement of the column in front of the Jesuit church was symbolic - the church was built by Protestants and its takeover by the Jesuits in the context of the events of the time was actually an act of victory of Catholicism over Protestantism.Slovakia · Bratislava I

The Slovak Presidential Palace is a large-scale historical building with a history of more than 200 years. There is a very beautiful musical fountain in the square in front of the presidential palace. Whenever the music sounds, many tourists gather here to watch. In addition, a guard changing ceremony is held in front of the presidential palace every day, which is worth seeing.
