Lake Misurina

Lake Misurina

5.8
Lake Misurina is located in the Dolomites and is a large, scenic natural lake in the area. The lake is adjacent to the road. On clear, windless days, the reflections of the surrounding steep mountains are perfectly captured on the clear lake surface. The soft light in the morning and at dusk makes it an ideal spot for photographing the lake and mountain scenery. The lakeside trail is flat, allowing you to enjoy the mountain views from different angles along the way. The lake offers a wealth of sightseeing and leisure opportunities. In summer, the lakeside environment is pleasant, and you can rent a boat to drift to the center of the lake for a different perspective of the mountain scenery. Once winter arrives, the lake freezes over, presenting an expansive winter landscape. In addition, it serves as a transportation hub for visiting the surrounding mountains, and the well-developed facilities in the area provide visitors with a comfortable experience for sightseeing and relaxation.Auronzo di Cadore · 14.2km from San Vito di Cadore

Zoldo Valley Ski Area

5
In the embrace of the peaks of Veneto, Zoldo Valley Ski Area offers 72 km of runs, an elevation range of 1,300–2,100m, and 8 lifts linking 16 runs, taking you between the Civetta and Pelmo massifs. As dusk dyes the Dolomites, the Pecol slope's 5-km illuminated run comes alive. A 5-minute ride on the 12-seat panoramic cable car brings you to the summit, where you can swoop down a Milky Way woven of light and shadow, the ice crystals kicked up by your skis dancing with the stars. The Cristelin and Foppe areas push night skiing to its peak: laser projections stage a flowing aurora across the Pelmo massif. Non-skiers can also savor the romance of snow and ice, with mountain huts and restaurants serving refreshments to relax, and through floor-to-ceiling windows you can see the golden arcs traced by night skiers. This is not only an arena for skiers, but also a pilgrimage site for the aesthetics of snow and ice.Val di Zoldo · 11.1km from San Vito di Cadore

Cortina d'Ampezzo

4.8
Cortina d'Ampezzo remains a popular ski resort in Italy, attracting many politicians, business elites, and celebrities for vacations every year. Located in a wide valley and surrounded by mountains, its magnificence is breathtaking. Known as the "Queen of the Dolomites," it is perhaps the most dramatic ski destination in all of Europe. It is no wonder that its beautiful mountain snowscapes have appeared multiple times in the 007 James Bond film series. Cortina d'Ampezzo is also known for its historical significance, having hosted the 1956 Winter Olympics, as well as the 1927 and 1941 World Alpine Ski Championships.Cortina d'Ampezzo · 10.2km from San Vito di Cadore

Tre Cime di Lavaredo stands in the Dolomites. The three massive dolomite peaks are lined up from east to west, named Cima Piccola, Cima Grande, and Cima Ovest. Their vertical rock walls, resembling castle battlements, are the defining feature of these peaks. Unique geological structures and years of erosion have created a magnificent mountain landscape, making it an iconic view of the region. Hiking the loop is a classic way to visit this attraction: start from the trailhead on the south side, follow the well-marked trail over the mountain pass, and reach the mountain hut famous for its views before turning back. The loop is moderate in length, and visitors with average fitness can complete it in about half a day. The north face is the highlight of the entire route, with several massive, wall-like rock faces standing side by side, often bathed in unique colors by the sun at dawn and dusk. Along the trail, you may encounter wildlife, and the grassy slopes are dotted with various alpine plants. These peaks also carry historical memories, as early front lines once passed between them, and remnants of fortifications still remain in the mountains, which can be visited along the hiking trail. This is also a famous rock climbing destination, with many steep rock faces attracting countless outdoor enthusiasts to take on the challenge.Auronzo di Cadore · 19.2km from San Vito di Cadore

Dolomites

7.6
4.9/5
16 reviews
Dolomites are located in the southern foothills of the Alps and are renowned for their unique dolomite landscape. Unlike other mountain ranges in the Alps, the mountains here are primarily composed of dolomite, with vertical fractures in the rock forming jagged ridges and steep cliffs. At sunrise and sunset, the dolomite reflects warm hues ranging from pink to deep red. This light phenomenon is known as alpenglow, and it is one of the natural phenomena of the Dolomites. Multiple iconic landscapes are distributed along the mountain range: the jagged ridge of Seceda pierces the sky, with alpine meadows spreading out at its feet; the three massive rock peaks of the Tre Cime di Lavaredo rise abruptly, forming the iconic skyline of the Dolomites. Summer is the primary season for hiking, with numerous trails crossing alpine meadows and pine forests, dotted with family-run mountain huts along the way for rest and dining. In winter, the Dolomites transform into a ski destination, with ski slopes connecting multiple valleys. The entire region blends Italian and Austrian culture, with architectural styles featuring characteristics of both.Rocca Pietore · 28.2km from San Vito di Cadore

Lago di Braies

Lago di Braies is an alpine lake formed by a landslide that blocked a river valley. The lake is surrounded by peaks on three sides, and its water color is a rare blue-green to emerald green all year round. A massive rock wall towers at the far end. When there is no wind, the entire mountain and the coniferous forest on the shore are perfectly reflected in the water, creating a magnificent mirror-like landscape. The trail around the lake winds through deep coniferous forests and along the scree slopes beneath the rock walls, offering constantly changing perspectives. The wooden boathouse by the lake is a highly recognizable landmark for photography. Boating in the middle of the lake and looking up at the cliffs from the water offers a unique way to experience the scenery. The scenery here varies with the seasons. In the fall, the larches along the shore turn golden, creating a beautiful contrast with the emerald lake water. In winter, the lake freezes over and the surrounding area is covered in snow, revealing a serene and pure alpine landscape.Braies · 27.7km from San Vito di Cadore

I came in twice during the day, once for the sunrise and once in the afternoon. Best time to take photos here is during sunrise where the water is calm and less crowded. You can have photos of the reflection of the mountain. Nearby parking is also free during sunrise.
